During the August 1st Army Day, the official account of the PLA News and Communication Center, "China Military Trumpet", released a series of videos of the Army Infantry Academy's "Gun King Challenge", which featured many new high-tech equipment in the competition, including bionic bird drones, jet flying backpacks, electric four-wheelers, electric surfboards, flying grenades, etc., which were eye-catching and exciting.
Not only the Army participated in the "Gun King Challenge" of the Army Infantry Academy, but also many special operations teams from the Navy, Air Force, and Armed Police Force participated in the event. These high-tech equipment were the active equipment brought by each team.
In the video, we can see that when the Marine Corps Jiaolong Commando members sneaked to the shore, they released a very realistic pigeon-sized bird. This is a bionic aircraft with reconnaissance and other functions. It is completely different from the four-rotor or single-rotor drones we are familiar with. It really flies by flapping its wings. Of course, this also has a professional classification among aircraft, called flapping-wing aircraft.
In fact, the earliest aircraft conceived by humans was a flapping-wing aircraft that imitated the flight of birds. Seeing birds flying easily and freely, it was difficult to imitate them, so humans had to give up flapping wings when building airplanes and found other ways to create propellers, jets, etc. Today, the advancement of science and technology has made flapping-wing aircraft available, and we can see that in this competition, the Marine Corps used two types of bird aircraft, one the size of a pigeon and the other much larger like an eagle.
As soon as people see this aircraft, they will immediately understand that it flies almost exactly like a real bird and is silent, which shows that its concealment is very good. Compared with rotorcraft, it is difficult to be discovered or even noticed. The surface is covered with simulated feathers, and it is believed that the skeleton and other manufacturing materials are unlikely to be metal, so it is difficult to detect even with anti-UAV radar.
And its detection capability should never be underestimated. Even a pigeon-sized one must be equipped with white light or infrared cameras, image transmission systems, etc. The larger one must be stronger, such as wind resistance, flight altitude, long-duration flight capability, etc. It can even grab or drop various objects like an eagle. You can really let your imagination run wild in its use.
The Russian-Ukrainian battlefield has fully demonstrated the combat capabilities of drones, but in comparison, their drones are still very rudimentary and far from our level.
The Marine Corps also unveiled electric surfboards and electric four-wheel balance vehicles. These two individual vehicles can provide water and land mobility respectively. They can not only carry people and cargo, but also move very quickly and silently. Compared with traditional kayaks and other assault capabilities, the electric balance vehicle also has certain off-road capabilities, which not only saves the soldiers' physical strength but also speeds up the march.
The individual flying backpacks displayed by the Army Special Forces are also eye-opening. Special forces members carry this jet backpack and land directly into combat, just like a god descending from the sky. The use of this individual flying backpack is of great significance. For example, it can carry special forces to fly over obstacle areas, fly to tall buildings or mountaintops within tens of seconds, seize commanding heights, and pursue enemies who are fleeing by car or boat.
The Army Special Forces' display of this flying backpack shows that it has met certain practical requirements. Similar products have also been researched abroad, but they are extremely expensive and there is no news of any results in military applications.
How do you view these high-tech equipment? First, this is a reflection of my country's scientific and technological strength. Everyone on earth knows that flapping-wing drones are good, jet backpacks are good, and electric surfboards are useful, but it is very difficult to develop and put them into practical use; second, it is my country's highly industrialized strength that enables these research results to be smoothly and quickly transferred to equipment use, and the strong industrial chain supporting capacity. Other countries may have to purchase many parts from the international market, while my country's domestic supporting capacity is very strong. This is also a natural phenomenon. Everyone has ideas, and China will soon be able to turn them into reality.
