On August 7, the beginning of autumn, in order to further enhance the school's cultural atmosphere and highlight the school's cultural heritage, Yongzhou No. 1 Middle School specially invited Mr. Wen Houyong, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association and a long-term employee in the education front, to write couplets for the school office building columns, and held a ceremony to unveil the couplets. Participants in the ceremony included Mr. Li Dingjun, Mr. Yu Dexin, old alumni of the school, and Zhang Xiangdong, secretary of the school party committee, and other leaders.
The couplet "Although the road is far, you will reach your destination; although the task is difficult, you will succeed" is used on the pillars in front of the school office building. The original text comes from "Xunzi·Self-cultivation" "Although the road is near, you will not reach it if you do not walk. Although the task is small, it will not be accomplished if you do not do it." General Secretary Xi Jinping used it in his 2023 New Year's message to encourage the Chinese people to be down-to-earth, work hard, accumulate small steps to a thousand miles, and turn the grand goal into a beautiful reality with the ambition of Yugong moving mountains and the perseverance of dripping water wearing away stones. The couplet "Fragrance can lead to far-reaching, love can nourish righteousness" on the rear pillars was created by Zhang Xiangdong. The first word "Fragrance·Ai" is the name of the party building brand that the school is committed to creating. "Fragrance" comes from the school's large number, wide distribution, and old camphor trees. "Love" is taken from the essence of education. The combination of the two is to hope that all teachers and students of No. 1 Middle School can be of noble character, fragrant and beautiful, love the party, love the country, love the people, love the family, love the school, love the hometown, practice the education of love, and know how to be grateful and give back.
At the end of November 2023, after Zhang Xiangdong was transferred to the position of Party Secretary of Yongzhou No. 1 Middle School, he successively proposed the goals of building a red No. 1 Middle School, a quality No. 1 Middle School, an academic No. 1 Middle School, and a happy No. 1 Middle School, and the direction of "Xiang Ai" party-building brand and campus culture construction. He invited well-known writers to the school to give lectures, and sincerely invited members of couplet associations and calligraphers associations at all levels to create and write couplets for the school. At the same time, he arranged for all middle-level cadres of the school to conduct special research in more than 20 directions such as "one training and three styles" of the new era school, bookish campus, and smart campus. He reported with PPT at party and government work meetings from time to time. A series of measures led the school to go more practically and further on the road of connotation-oriented development.
