On August 6, Alexei Smirnov, acting governor of Russia's Kursk Oblast, said that Russian troops had prevented a border offensive attempt by Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the 6th saying that on the morning of that day, about 300 militants and 30 armored vehicles from Ukraine attempted to cross the border into Kursk Oblast. Subsequently, the Russian Air Force launched an air strike on these militants and equipment, causing the enemy to lose 6 tanks and 2Infantry fighting vehicleand 4 armored personnel carriers.


According to reports, Smirnov said that the fighting killed five Russians, including two ambulance workers, and injured at least 20 people, including six children. Reuters said that this offensive was one of the largest ground offensives by Ukraine against Russian territory since the outbreak of the conflict. Ukraine has not yet made an official comment on this.
