Jinyang.com reported that on August 5, with the end of the men's 25-meter rapid-fire pistol event, the Chinese shooting team won 5 gold medals. For shooting athletes, in addition to their own shooting level, the quality of the bullet is also a key factor in winning the competition, and the air gun bullets used by the Chinese shooting team are from Doumen, Zhuhai.
Making the "best bullet in the world"
Decades ago, guns and bullets for shooting competitions around the world were monopolized by European and American manufacturers such as Germany's Duramite; decades later, today, our Olympic athletes use our own bullets to overcome all obstacles and achieve great results.
The hero behind the scenes is the Qiangyuan brand "QYS high-precision airgun bullet". Zhuhai Qiangyuan Sporting Goods Co., Ltd., located in Baijiao Science and Technology Industrial Park, Doumen District, Zhuhai City, is the first batch of designated manufacturers of civilian guns and bullets approved by the Ministry of Public Security. This "Zhuhai-made" bullet is hard-won.
Many years ago, the company's founder Fu Qiang boasted: "This small bullet still needs to be imported, so I will make it." Little did he know that this tiny bullet has extremely high technical requirements. "The first is the shape, to ensure that the bullet has appropriate wind resistance and stable flight; the second is the lead. Pure lead is too soft, so some alloys must be added to maintain the hardness of the bullet and make it less prone to oxidation."
Fu Qiang majored in mechanics and had worked in a watch factory for many years. However, he had to start from scratch to learn how to make airgun bullets, which was a big challenge for him. In order to overcome the design difficulties, he spent the longest time drawing design sketches from 9 am to 7 am the next day.
After unremitting efforts, in 1993, Fu Qiang basically solved the problem of producing air gun bullets. Then came the trial production, and Fu Qiang produced the first batch of bullets. However, due to the limitations of experience and technology, the products produced this time were still a little worse than German bullets. Fu Qiang knew very well that "in the arena of competitive sports, athletes will only choose the best products." Therefore, he continued to improve the technology, and the market share of the air gun bullets he produced in the domestic market increased year by year, reaching more than 99% by 2000. Fu Qiang proudly said: "Everyone thinks it is good, about the same as German bullets." However, Fu Qiang's goal is not just "about the same as German bullets."
He led the company to start from basic scientific research, overcome difficulties one after another, and possessed independent intellectual property rights in the development and production of high-level airgun bullets. "The shape and position tolerance (precision) of our bullets can reach one ten-thousandth of a millimeter. At present, Germany cannot meet this standard." Fu Qiang said.
Using Zhuhai as a medium to go global
After the start-up period, after five or six years of polishing, the airgun bullets produced by Fu Qiang were used by the national shooting team. "During the 2000 Olympics, the national team used our bullets for training. Because airgun events are usually the first events in the Olympics, many of the winners of my country's first Olympic gold medal and various shooting gold medals later used our bullets, including Du Li, Wu Liuxi, Zhao Ruozhu, Yi Siling, Yang Qian, etc."
In 2003, after investigation, Fu Qiang finally decided to invest in Doumen, Zhuhai and established Zhuhai Qiangyuan Sporting Goods Co., Ltd.
After 21 years of hard work in Zhuhai, Zhuhai Qiangyuan Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. has become the "hidden champion" in the global air gun bullet manufacturing field, producing about 1 billion air gun bullets annually, with a market share of nearly 100% in the national competitive sports market, and exports to more than 50 countries and regions.
In the world's three major events, namely the Olympics, the World Cup and the World Championships, many athletes chose "QYS high-precision air gun bullets" and won gold medals, such as Vietnamese athlete Huang Chunrong, American athlete Ginny Trasher, Indian athlete Abhinav Bindra, etc.
