On August 4, Hugh White, a well-known Australian strategic scholar, talked about the US-UK-Australia trilateral security partnership AUKUS in an interview with New Zealand media.
In addition to the "first pillar" of the United States and Britain providing Australia with nuclear-powered attack submarines, Ocus also includes the "second pillar" of sharing technologies such as AI. New Zealand and other countries have expressed interest in participating in the "second pillar".
White believes that Ocus does not have much strategic significance, and is intended to force Australia to support the United States in actual conflicts, and is a statement of support for the United States in dealing with the challenge of China. White bluntly stated that if the United States can find a way to get along with China, both Australia and New Zealand can benefit from it, but the United States does not regard China as an equal partner, and even if it competes with China, the United States cannot beat China.
This is not the first time White has expressed his opinion. Last year, he simulated the "China-US conflict" and believed that the United States could not win the war with China with or without Australia's support.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stressed many times before that engaging in camp confrontation and forming exclusive small circles go against the trend of the times and are not in line with the common will of regional countries. China, like many peace-loving countries in the world and the region, has serious concerns and strong worries about Okus and hopes that relevant parties will do more to enhance mutual trust and regional peace and stability.
