From 8:00 on August 6 to 17:00 on August 9 is the time to fill in the application form for the general batch of higher vocational colleges (including higher vocational college majors jointly run by higher vocational colleges) in the 2024 Hubei Provincial College Entrance Examination. On the morning of August 2, Jimu News invited Huang Desheng, director of the Admissions Office of Wuhan Railway Bridge Vocational College, to be a guest in the live broadcast room to answer questions for the majority of candidates and parents, and to introduce the school's educational characteristics, professional advantages and admissions policies in detail.

host:Choosing a school means choosing a future. So, for students who are about to embark on a new stage in life, could you please briefly introduce the basic situation and characteristics of our school?

Huang Desheng:Of course, I am very happy to have this opportunity to share with you. Wuhan Railway Bridge Vocational College is a full-time public general college approved by the People's Government of Hubei Province and registered with the Ministry of Education. It is held by China Railway Group, a Fortune 500 state-owned enterprise listed company. It is the only bridge vocational college in the country and has a unique railway background. The school is located in Wuhan, the bridge-building capital of China. It has beautiful scenery and convenient transportation. It is an ideal place for study and life. We rely on the industry to run schools. The employment rate of graduates in state-owned enterprises is as high as 80%, mainly flowing to well-known enterprises such as China Railway, China Communications, and China Construction. The employment prospects are very broad.

host:After this introduction, our college entrance examination students can probably wait to learn more about our school. What are our school’s enrollment plans?

Huang Desheng:Our enrollment plan is very comprehensive, covering 22 provinces (municipalities) across the country, including Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hebei, Sichuan, Guizhou, etc. We closely connect with the employment needs of major state-owned enterprises, central enterprises and railway bureaus to ensure that every student can find a suitable development stage for themselves.

host:Indeed, the choice of major is a major issue in every candidate's mind. Among the many majors, which ones do you think are the most distinctive and "star" majors that can both reflect the school's advantages and meet market demand?

Huang Desheng: Our school has a rich variety of professional settings, covering four major categories, namely civil engineering, equipment manufacturing, transportation, finance and trade, and 12 sub-categories, namely civil construction, architectural design, surveying and mapping, construction engineering management, railway transportation, road transportation, urban rail transit, electromechanical equipment, automation, automobile manufacturing, e-commerce, logistics, etc. Among them, five majors, namely railway bridge and tunnel engineering technology, road and bridge engineering technology, urban rail transit engineering technology, engineering surveying technology, and civil engineering testing technology, are high-level professional group construction majors of Hubei Province's "Double High Plan". Speaking of the most distinctive majors, our school is the only higher vocational college in the country named after bridges. As one of the few higher vocational colleges in the country to offer bridge majors, our school has been offering bridge majors since its establishment in 1958. Take the railway bridge and tunnel engineering technology major as an example. This major has a long history, a wide range of study, and diverse employment prospects. It is not only a key recruitment major for state-owned enterprises and central enterprises such as China Railway, China Communications Construction, and China Construction, but is also favored by major railway bureaus across the country.

host:In the face of ever-changing industry changes, innovation is an eternal theme. Keeping up with the times and constantly innovating are important missions of education. Has the school opened new majors in recent years to adapt to the development of emerging industries?

Huang Desheng:Yes, we always pay attention to industry trends and market demands. Guided by enterprise and market demands, we have added many new majors in recent years. Last year, we added the major of "Intelligent Control Technology". This major is also a major for in-depth integration of school and enterprise with Haier Group, cultivating highly skilled talents in the fields of intelligent manufacturing and intelligent equipment application. This year, according to the needs of state-owned enterprises such as China Railway Group, China Communications, and China Construction, our school has newly opened the major of "Engineering Logistics Management". This major is a specialty of China Railway Group and a core major of the "14th Five-Year Plan for Modern Logistics Development". It is also a major urgently needed by engineering management companies, logistics management companies, and high-end manufacturing companies. We are committed to cultivating compound technical and skilled talents engaged in the procurement, warehousing, supply, and cost accounting of engineering materials and mechanical equipment.

host:At the same time, "good teachers produce good students", and an excellent teaching staff is an important guarantee for the quality of education. What are the unique practices and achievements of the school in teaching staff building? How does it ensure that every student can get the best educational resources and thrive?

Huang Desheng: Our school currently has 180 teachers on campus, including 138 full-time teachers, 42 part-time teachers, 85 teachers with associate senior titles or above, and 72 "dual-qualified" teachers; 6 visiting professors, 5 "Chutian Skilled Teachers", and a strong teaching staff led by masters, including craftsmen and technicians with superb skills and strong industry influence, and national technical experts. At the same time, we also focus on improving the quality of teaching, and cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talents by continuously optimizing the curriculum and teaching methods. Since its establishment in 1958, the school has successively provided more than 43,000 high-quality workers and technical and skilled talents for the national railway industry and local economic construction; 46 professor-level senior engineers and 423 senior engineers with outstanding performance have emerged from the alumni. The construction projects they presided over have won 17 "National Science and Technology Progress Awards", 33 "Lu Ban Awards for Chinese Construction Projects", 18 "Zhan Tianyou Awards for Chinese Civil Engineering", 84 provincial and ministerial "Science and Technology Progress Awards", and 96 national and provincial and municipal "Quality Engineering Awards"; 28 of them have won the honors of "Model Workers" and "May 1st Labor Medals" at the national and provincial and municipal levels, 134 have won the titles of "Outstanding Entrepreneurs" and "Outstanding Project Managers", 58 have won the "Locomotive Medal", and 7 have won the titles of "Hubei Craftsmen" and "Great Country Craftsmen". The school is known as the "Huangpu Military Academy for Bridge Builders". It has not only cultivated so many outstanding alumni, but it is no exaggeration to say that according to incomplete statistics, almost every bridge on the Yangtze River has been built by our alumni. In addition, our alumni are also scattered throughout the railway bureau systems across the country.

Huang Desheng:Our school has established a comprehensive scholarship system, including national scholarships, national inspirational scholarships, school scholarships, and various corporate grants. We encourage students to study hard and develop in an all-round way, and to obtain these honors and grants through excellent grades and improvement of comprehensive qualities.

host:In addition, employment is one of the most concerned issues for every student today. In the fiercely competitive job market, how does the school build a solid bridge for students to their ideal careers?

Huang Desheng:In terms of employment, our school has unique advantages. Relying on the industry to run schools, we always adhere to the school-running philosophy of "quality-based schools, characteristic-based schools, and talent-based schools", adhering to the school-running direction of "based on China Railway, facing the society, serving the country, and going to the world", and promoting the spirit of the college of "brave to leap, pursue excellence", with the purpose of serving development and the promotion of employment as the orientation, cultivating technical and skilled talents for railway construction, railway operation management and infrastructure construction. In April this year, the school held the 2024 campus recruitment fair, attracting more than 100 well-known companies and units such as China Railway Sixth Bureau, China Railway Nineth Bureau, China Railway Fourth Engineering Bureau, China Communications Second Bureau, Hubei Communications Investment, Capital Airport, and Ideal Auto to recruit talents. The school has signed agreements with many Chinese-headed enterprises, and the number of people trained on order has reached 830. 80% of graduates have entered state-owned enterprises and railway systems after graduation. Our school is one of the "2+1" targeted training colleges of major railway bureaus, one of the 43 designated colleges for recruitment in the railway system, and one of the designated colleges for talent introduction of China Railway.

host:In addition to study and employment, students are also very concerned about campus life and accommodation conditions. How does our school arrange this aspect?

Huang Desheng:Our school has a pleasant environment, excellent dormitory conditions, complete facilities, beds with desks, independent toilets and hot water, providing students with a warm and comfortable living environment. In addition, the school has always paid attention to the construction of campus culture. Rich campus cultural activities, community cultural festivals, sports cultural festivals, campus red song festivals, 100 students forums, reading activity months, moral lectures, vocational education activity weeks... have gradually become the school's cultural brand. The school has more than 40 teacher and student clubs, including the Student Press Corps, Campus Football Club, Basketball Club, Badminton Club, Guitar Club, Dance Club, Street Dance Club, and Reading Association. In recent years, many cultural and sports teams and professional skill teams represented by the school's badminton team have won more than 20 awards in various national competitions, and good news has been coming frequently.
