The 2024 Lhasa Import Commodity Exhibition opened at the Tibet Convention and Exhibition Center on August 4. 246 companies and more than 600 foreign merchants from 31 countries and regions came to Tibet to "dig for gold". That day coincided with the first day of the traditional Shoton Festival in Lhasa. People flocked to the exhibition after it started. This is the largest import exhibition in Tibet in more than a decade. It is of great significance for Lhasa to build an open central city facing South Asia and promote the accelerated development of foreign trade.

This exhibition is the first comprehensive international exhibition with the theme of "import" in Lhasa. It is not only a grand event for commodity exhibition and trade negotiation, but also a platform for exchanges, cooperation and friendship. The exhibition hall has five theme pavilions for Nepal, Serbia, Malaysia, Thailand and Mongolia, two special exhibition areas for comprehensive foreign trade services and Lhasa Good Things, and 279 international standard booths, with an exhibition area of ​​8,000 square meters. The exhibition products cover more than 1,000 kinds of handicrafts, consumer goods, home cultural creation, electronic clothing, etc. During the exhibition, many activities such as investment promotion conferences, cross-border e-commerce exchanges, and cultural performances were also held simultaneously.
At the opening ceremony, the Lhasa Investment Promotion Bureau introduced 35 preferential policies in six aspects for attracting investment in Lhasa, strengthened in-depth connections and interactive exchanges with foreign guests and entrepreneurs, attracted more investors to start businesses in Lhasa, and expanded the brand effect of "Lhasa is the first choice for investing in Tibet."
Lhasa Mayor Wang Qiang introduced that in recent years, Lhasa has actively promoted the development of foreign trade, formulated and issued policies to support the development of foreign trade, and built and put into use the first cross-border e-commerce overseas warehouse in Tibet. "We sincerely invite friendly people from all over the world to come to Lhasa, understand Lhasa, invest in Lhasa, and share the Shoton feast of open development together."
At the exhibition, citizens and tourists from inside and outside the district stopped and lingered in front of the booths, communicated with foreign businessmen through on-site translators, and snapped up various foreign products. Shan Zengbaizhen from Doilungdeqen District, Lhasa, said: "I bought Russian nesting dolls, Nepalese handicrafts, Thai herbal ointments, Mongolian cashmere products, and various snacks from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. I can buy foreign products at my doorstep and experience the exotic customs and diverse cultures on site. It feels great."
Navaraj Dhakal, Consul General of Nepal in Lhasa, said he was very pleased to note that a large number of Nepalese businessmen and business representatives from other countries and regions participated in this grand exhibition. He hoped that Kathmandu and Lhasa could work together in the future to hold such exhibitions in both places to promote exchanges and tourism development between the two sides.

Aminzai Mohammad Jan, a businessman from Kabul, Afghanistan, mainly sells Afghan blankets and other handicrafts. This is his second time to go to Tibet for a sales exhibition. At the scene, Aminzai Mohammad Jan was very busy, constantly selecting suitable styles and colors for customers. When customers bargained, he took out his mobile phone to play the production process of the blankets. He said that he expected better sales this time.
Faisal Rasheed from Pakistan is a "regular visitor" to Tibet's import exhibitions and sales, mainly selling Pakistani jade, bronzes, etc. He said he likes Tibet very much and also came to participate in the exhibition in May this year, achieving sales of 300,000 yuan. He smiled and said: "This time we brought goods worth millions of yuan, of course I hope to sell them all."
In recent years, Lhasa has actively promoted the development of foreign trade and deepened economic and trade exchanges with neighboring countries and regions.
