Xinhua News Agency, Berlin, August 6(Reporter Du Zheyu Chu Yi) A recent survey report from Germany's DAK Health Insurance Company shows that one in four Germans suffers from health problems due to extreme high temperatures, and among people over 60 years old, the proportion is close to one-third.
The survey report, which covers 1,006 German adults, shows that among those who experienced health problems due to extreme heat, 76% said they felt physically tired, 66% had circulatory problems, and 59% had sleep disorders. About 32% of people over 60 were affected by extreme heat, a significant increase from last year.
89% of respondents believe that heavy manual labor jobs such as handicrafts and construction are particularly affected by heat waves, and 80% of respondents believe that nursing homes and care institutions are vulnerable. Regarding the possibility that heat waves and extreme weather will increase in the future, 61% of respondents are very or extremely worried, and young people between the ages of 18 and 29 are particularly worried about this trend.
Andreas Storm, CEO of DAK Health Insurance, said that it is alarming that many people have health problems at the beginning of the hot season. Protection programs must be further expanded and developed throughout Germany to better prevent and cool down, especially for children, patients and the elderly. Heat protection and cooling in the workplace is also important.
