On August 6, an internal email showed that ElonMuskElon Musk's social media company X plans to shut down its Facebook page in the "coming weeks"San Franciscooffice.

The email was sent by Linda Yaccarino, CEO of Company X, to employees on Monday, stating that Company X employees will be relocated toCaliforniaThe company also plans to open an office in CaliforniaPalo AltoOpening an engineering-focused office, a new office that will be shared with Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI.

“This is an important decision that will affect many people, but it is the best option for the company in the long run,” Iaccarino wrote in the email.

Musk announced last month that he plans to move X Corp.’s headquarters toTexasThe move comes after California passed a new law that prohibits school districts from requiring teachers to notify parents when a student changes their gender identity. Musk, who has a bad relationship with California, criticized the law for "forcing families and businesses to leave California to protect their children."

Company X, formerly known as Twitter, was founded in San Francisco in 2006. In 2012, the company moved its headquarters to the Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco after reaching a payroll tax relief agreement with local lawmakers. As companies such as ride-hailing company Uber also moved into the neighborhood, Twitter became a symbol of the city's technology industry.

Twitter has not paid rent to Shorenstein, a San Francisco real estate company that manages its office buildings, since Musk bought it in 2022. Company X has also tried to cut costs by converting some office space into bedrooms for traveling employees.

Musk and Company X representatives did not respond to requests for comment on the move, and a spokesman for Shorenstein declined to comment.
