According to AFP, a base in Iraq was attacked by rockets on August 5 local time, injuring several American personnel.

Agence France-Presse said the attack took place at the Asad Air Base in western Iraq. A US Department of Defense spokesman said the base "was attacked by rockets suspected to be targeting US and coalition forces" and that "initial indications show that several US personnel were injured."

The White House reportedly said that US President Biden and Vice President Harris had been briefed on the attack.

According to AFP, an Iraqi military source said earlier that the base was attacked by multiple rockets, some of which landed inside the base and some in nearby villages, but caused no damage; a commander of a pro-Iranian armed group said that at least two rockets were aimed at the base, but did not specify which party carried out the attack.
