On August 5, the 2024 Fortune Global 500 list was officially announced. This list is not only an important criterion for measuring the size of large companies, but also a "barometer" for observing the world and regional economy. In this list, a total of 133 Chinese companies were on the list.

The total operating revenue of the companies on the Fortune Global 500 list this year is approximately US$41 trillion, equivalent to one-third of the global GDP, a slight increase of about 0.1% over last year. The threshold for this list (minimum sales revenue) has increased from US$30.9 billion to US$32.1 billion. The total net profit of all listed companies increased by 2.3% year-on-year to approximately US$2.97 trillion. In addition to the total profit of the 500 companies being slightly lower than that of the companies on the list in the previous year (2022), other indicators, including total assets, total net assets, and total number of employees, have reached their highest peaks since the establishment of the Fortune Global 500 list.

In 2023, the total profit of the world's top 500 companies will be close to 3 trillion US dollars, an increase of 2.3% over the previous year. Although Saudi Aramco's profit fell by about 24% year-on-year, it still topped the profit list with a profit of about 120.7 billion US dollars; three American technology companies - Apple, Google's parent company Alphabet and Microsoft ranked second, fourth and fifth respectively in the most profitable companies (profit list). Berkshire Hathaway, as the company with the largest loss on the Fortune 500 list last year, ranked third in this year's profit list with a profit of more than 96.2 billion US dollars. Three Chinese companies entered the top ten of the profit list, all of which are commercial banks: Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China, among which Industrial and Commercial Bank of China's profit exceeded 51.4 billion US dollars.

The Fortune Global 500 list shows that the total revenue of the 133 Chinese companies on the list in 2023 will be approximately US$11 trillion, a decrease of approximately 6% compared with the 142 companies on the list last year; the average sales revenue is approximately US$83 billion.

Nanduwan Finance reporter found that JD.com entered the top 50 for the first time, ranking 47th, becoming the largest private company in mainland China. Pinduoduo's performance was also impressive. It was listed among the 50 companies with the highest return on equity (ROE), ranking 47th, becoming the second company in China in terms of ROE. In addition, in the communications industry, China Mobile ranked 55th in the world with a revenue of US$142.832 billion, and Huawei ranked 103rd with a revenue of US$99.470 billion.

It is worth mentioning that Gree Electric Appliances failed to be included in the Fortune Global 500 list last year and failed to make the list again this year. Gree Electric Appliances previously announced that in 2023, Gree achieved the best performance in its history since its establishment, with total operating revenue of 205.018 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.82%; net profit attributable to the parent company was 29.017 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.41%.

Nanduwan Financial Newspaper reporters found that the threshold for this year's electronic and electrical equipment list is 32758.5 million US dollars, equivalent to 234 billion yuan. The Chinese home appliance companies on the list this year are Haier Smart Home and Midea Group. Among them, Haier Smart Home's ranking rose by 12 places from last year to 407th, and Midea rose from 278th last year to 277th. Nanduwan Financial Newspaper reporters found that only four companies on the electronic and electrical equipment list this year rose in ranking. In addition to the above-mentioned Haier Smart Home and Midea Group, only Sony rose from 140th last year to 128th. Schneider rose from 421st last year to 387th.

Judging from the strategic routes of the two Chinese companies whose rankings continue to rise, Haier Smart Home has amplified its value externally through its high-end brand, extended its value through its scenario brand Sanyi Bird, and split its value through its ecological brand. Internally, it has achieved ultimate efficiency by building digital platform capabilities, further realizing its ability to perceive user needs, interact with users end-to-end, serve users throughout the entire process, and provide users with an excellent smart home experience.

In 2023, Midea Group will drive its development with the business principle of "stable profits and driving growth", insist on the balanced development of ToC and ToB industries, and continue to focus on the five major sectors of smart home, new energy and industrial technology, smart building technology, robotics and automation, and innovative business. Among them, the proportion of B-end revenue in total revenue has exceeded 25%, reaching 97.8 billion yuan, and the "second engine" continues to grow at a high rate.
