IT Home reported on August 5 that according to the latest data from Techinsights, China's smartphone shipments in the second quarter of 2024 increased by 5% year-on-year to 67.4 million units.

IT Home attached specific brand rankings:

  • Vivo shipped 13.1 million units, a year-on-year increase of 13.9%, with a market share of 19.4%;

  • OPPO (including OnePlus) shipped 11.2 million units, down 8.2% year-on-year, with a market share of 16.6%;

  • Huawei shipped 10.4 million units, a year-on-year increase of 56.8%, with a market share of 15.4%;

  • Honor shipped 10.3 million units, down 4.6% year-on-year, with a market share of 15.3%;

  • Xiaomi shipped 10 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16.3%, with a market share of 14.8%;

  • Apple shipped 9.5 million units, with a market share of 14% (the agency did not release year-on-year data).

The report shows that vivo's growth was mainly driven by the low-end Y series and high-end X series; OPPO adopted a cautious strategy in launching new products, focusing on high-quality products with high volume; despite Huawei's resilient performance in the Chinese market, its growth slowed significantly compared with previous quarters.

In addition, Honor strengthened its mass-market product line, including the mid-to-high-end Honor 200 series and the entry-level Play 50 series; Xiaomi's growth was mainly due to the manufacturer's achievements in 618 and the resumption of offline channel expansion; Apple's decline in China eased in the first quarter of 2024 due to substantial price discounts on the iPhone 15 series and older iPhone models and channel promotions during 618.

Techinsights analysis says,Due to normalization of inventory levels and more aggressive promotional activities by manufacturers, the market continued its recovery trend in the first quarter of 2024. Nevertheless, consumer demand remains weak.
