Apple is developing various new iPhone models for the future, which will make it the leader of a new generation of smartphones. While rumors about a new ultra-thin iPhone 17 have been swirling, we are now hearing that the company is developing different versions of its first foldable device, which could be an iPhone or an iPad. The company was previously expected to release the device in 2025, but later reports said that the foldable device will be released in 2026 due to supply constraints and technical issues.

Well-known analyst Jeff Pu pointed out in his latest research report that Apple will launch its first foldable iPad in 2026 instead of 2025, which can only mean that the company has problems with design and technology. Pu also emphasized that the company's iPhone 17 series combined with Apple Intelligence will promote iPhone sales, especially in China. However, there have been some "pushouts" for Apple's foldable phones, which means that these devices have been delayed than we originally expected.

As mentioned earlier, the company could have two reasons for moving up the launch date, which could result in the current model being ahead of the market by about a year in its standard form factor. Apple could be responding to development challenges, and slow technological progress has something to do with it. For example, Apple could be waiting to perfect the hinge mechanism, a key part of a foldable device. Also, on the manufacturing side, component yields could be lower than expected, which could increase the overall cost of the device, as we saw with the Vision Pro.

Analysts at Apple believe the company will release a foldable iPhone first, followed by a larger foldable device, which has been rumored for some time. The larger device could be an iPad or Mac hybrid with a 20.3-inch display, or it could be the company's first device with a hybrid iPadOS and macOS experience. As for the iPhone, earlier reports said the company plans to launch foldable and clamshell versions of the foldable iPhone, similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series. However, exact details are scarce at this stage.
