IT Home reported on August 5 that according to the latest news from APKMirrors, a website providing APK,Google Play Store has suddenly stopped providing full Android app APK packages, which will affect the side-loading installation of some applications.

Google is currently vigorously promoting the new Android App Bundle (AAB) package format. Since August 2021, Google Play has begun to require new applications to be published using the AAB format, which replaces APK as the standard release format.

AAB is a new packaging method that no longer requires one APK to include all content for all types of Android devices, which means the package size will be smaller and the download speed will be faster. However, AAB cannot be downloaded and installed directly in the Android system like APK, but needs to be deployed through Google Play or some third-party tools.

According to the APKMirrors issue submission page on GitHub, a netizen asked whether APKMirrors could provide a complete APK package for X/Twitter, and the reply below said:

This is happening to a lot of apps all of a sudden. Looks like Google has completely stopped generating fat APKs for them and will only provide bundles from now on. I had guessed this day would come, and it looks like it has. As far as I know, there's nothing we can do about it.
