At around 9 a.m., Zuwena Hamud Salem started her busy work as usual. She stared at the computer screen intently, checking the company's network operation in real time.

Salem is a network maintenance engineer at Huawei Tanzania. In 2020, as a sophomore majoring in computer science at the University of Dar es Salaam, Salem signed up for Huawei's "Seeds for the Future" program and successfully completed it. In 2021, she participated in the Information and Communication Technology Competition held by Huawei in Tanzania and won the fourth place.

"I have dreamed of becoming an engineer in the communications field since I was a child. By participating in Huawei's 'Seeds for the Future' project and the Information and Communications Technology Competition, I not only learned knowledge in the communications field, but also improved my practical, application and innovation capabilities," said Salem.

The "Seeds for the Future" project is a talent training project initiated by Huawei worldwide, dedicated to helping host countries cultivate information and communications technology talents. The training content includes knowledge in the fields of digital security, digital management and analysis, the Internet of Things, 5G technology, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, etc. Since the launch of the "Seeds for the Future" project in Tanzania in 2016, Huawei has provided more than 240 Tanzanian college students with the opportunity to learn information and communications technology.

Joyce Ndalichako, former Minister of Education, Science and Technology of Tanzania, said that Huawei has provided Tanzanian students with a learning and communication platform, and "thanked Chinese companies for their efforts in helping Tanzania train talents."

In addition to the "Seeds for the Future" project, Huawei has also actively cooperated with Tanzanian universities to establish the Huawei Information and Communications Technology Academy, which provides students with learning resources and opportunities to participate in international competitions and exchanges by building an online learning platform and holding information and communications technology competitions, thereby helping to develop the local communications industry. It is reported that Huawei has established formal partnerships with 19 universities in Tanzania, and has cultivated innovative and application-oriented technical talents for the local area through online learning and experimental training.

John Lazaro is a Tanzanian engineer and a certified instructor at Huawei ICT Academy. His student team won the first place in the Southern Africa region and the second place in the global finals of the 2021-2022 Huawei ICT Competition. "I am very proud of not only realizing my own dream, but also helping more people realize their dreams," Lazaro said.

"Both teachers and students need to actively embrace new technologies. Huawei Information and Communication Technology Academy provides a fertile ground for the continuous growth of college teachers and students." Lazaro said, "Huawei Information and Communication Technology Academy trains digital and communication technology talents for Tanzania and helps the development of Tanzania's digital industry."

In recent years, Tanzania has accelerated the development of the digital economy and encouraged investment in the digital economy. In December last year, the Tanzanian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei to strengthen Tanzania's digital ecosystem, promote the country's digital economic growth through technology and innovation, and achieve sustainable development goals.

Nape Nnaoye, former Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Tanzania, is very optimistic about the cooperation between Tanzania and China in the field of digital economy. He said that the "Seeds for the Future" project promotes Tanzania's digital transformation and hopes that more Tanzanian talents will enter the information and communications field to jointly promote the development of the digital economy in Tanzania and even Africa.
