IT Home reported on August 3 that power banks (mobile power banks) have become a must-have product for most users. Whether they are going out or traveling long distances, many users often carry power banks to recharge at any time. In the face of massive demand, many unscrupulous businesses produce low-quality power banks, which have serious safety hazards and may even catch fire and endanger personal safety.

Refer to the article "Lithium Batteries and Power Banks Have a "New Insurance" for Quality and Safety" issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation on July 19, 2023, which mentioned that from August 1, 2023, the country will implement CCC certification management for lithium-ion batteries, battery packs, and mobile power supplies. From August 1, 2024, products that do not obtain CCC certification and are marked with the certification mark shall not be manufactured, sold, imported or used in other business activities.

IT Home learned that a power bank (mobile power bank) that has passed the CCC certification is defined as a portable power source with a mass not exceeding 18kg, containing a lithium-ion battery or battery pack and having AC/DC input/output. Categories include power banks, portable energy storage power supplies, mobile power banks for camping, etc. The applicable standards are GB4943.1 and GB31241.

Due to the chemical characteristics of power banks, when the production process and structure of the power bank do not meet the national standard technical requirements, or when it is subjected to extreme high and low temperatures, severe bumps, long-term overcharging and other special circumstances during transportation and use, thermal runaway is likely to occur, causing the battery to swell and then cause safety problems such as fire, explosion, overheating or leakage. The mandatory implementation of the new CCC national standard can further improve the safety of mobile power supplies on the market
