IT Home reported on August 1 that due to declining demand in the luxury car market, Mercedes-Benz will cut production of the S-Class and EQS models, both of which are Mercedes' top-of-the-line sedans.

IT Home noted that the news was initially just a rumor, but was later confirmed by Mercedes officials. Both the S-Class and EQS are produced at the company's "Factory 56" in Sindelfingen, which usually operates in two shifts.Starting from October this year, the factory will switch to a single shift system. It was not immediately clear how Mercedes would compensate employees for the impact of the factory cuts.

Mercedes said in a statement: "We continue to optimise our production network.and use its high flexibility to respond to fluctuations and changing framework conditions caused by geopolitical, micro- and macroeconomic developments in order to remain competitiveWe are therefore planning to adjust the production of some models at the Sindelfingen plant.”

S-class sales fell 22% in the first half of this year, with a total of 28,100 units sold. Some potential S-class buyers may also be waiting for the 2026 facelift model, which will be unveiled next year and will feature a new styling design, including new headlights with star-shaped LED daytime running lights.
