Canalys recently released global market share sales data for the second quarter. Global mobile phone sales reached 288.9 million units in the quarter, a year-on-year increase of 12%. This is the third consecutive quarter of growth in the global mobile phone market. It is clear that the mobile phone market has recovered.

In the second quarter, Samsung shipped 53.5 million units, with a market share of 19%, a year-on-year increase of 1%, but its market share has dropped by 2% compared to 21% in 2023. However, in today's recovery environment, it is not a problem for Samsung to return to its original performance.

Apple ranked second with a market share of 16%, with shipments of 45.6 million units, achieving a 6% shipment growth, but a 1% decline in market share. Xiaomi ranked third with shipments of 42.3 million units and a market share of 15%, and its overall performance was very close to Apple. Xiaomi's growth rate was the highest among the top five, reaching 27%.

Vivo ranked fourth with 25.9 million units shipped and a 9% market share, with a strong growth rate of 19%. Ranked fifth is Transsion, the "King of Africa" shipped 25.5 million units in the quarter, performing very close to Vivo, occupying a 9% share and achieving a year-on-year growth of 12%.

Huawei, which is making great strides in the domestic market, did not make it into the top five in the global market share, but ranked in the other category. Of course, the total shipments in the other category in Q2 reached 96.2 million units, accounting for 33% of the market share. Obviously, the gap between other mobile phone brands and the top five in the market is not very large, and the mobile phone market will inevitably be more competitive in the future.

Canalys predicts that the global mobile phone market is expected to achieve single-digit growth in 2024 compared to 2023. However, in 2025, as consumer demand remains uncertain, especially in mature markets, mobile phone manufacturers should focus on providing innovative experiences.
