This month, Meta released the latest AI open source large model Llama 3.1 series, including 8 billion, 70 billion, and 405 billion parameter versions, with the context length extended to 128,000 tokens and available in multiple languages. Its performance indicators are comparable to paid models of competitors such as OpenAI.

On July 29, Meta announced the release of a new tool called AI Studio, built on the Llama 3.1 model, which enables users to create, share and design personalized AI chatbots. Users can share their AI characters on platforms including Instagram.

On July 24, NVIDIA announced the new NVIDIA AI Foundry service and NVIDIA NIM inference microservice, and deployed them together with Meta's Llama 3.1 series of open source AI large models.

This move reflects the close relationship between Nvidia and Meta. Nvidia currently accounts for more than 80% of the global AI chip market share. Huang Renxun praised Meta's open source big model. He and Zuckerberg both agreed that the big model should be open source. Huang Renxun said: "Just like the leather jacket I wear, I don't want to make it myself, but I hope someone else will make it for me, so these leather materials need to be open source so that everyone can use it."

Huang Renxun also mentioned the concept of "world model". He said that the next wave of AI will be robots. In addition to language models, artificial intelligence will also have a physical world model. We should study how to teach machines to recognize the physical world through visual training.

Humanoid robots are becoming a field that all technology giants are competing for. Huang Renxun said: "We are advancing the development of the entire NVIDIA robotics stack and opening it to global robotics developers and companies, allowing them to use the platform, acceleration library and AI model that best suits their needs."

NVIDIA announced at the SiGGRAPH conference on Monday that it will provide a complete set of services, models and software platforms for the world's leading robot manufacturers, AI model developers and software manufacturers to develop, train and build the next generation of humanoid robots. The complete set of products includes NVIDIA NIM microservices and frameworks for robot simulation and learning, and NVIDIA OSMO orchestration services for running multi-stage robot workloads.

Training the basic model of humanoid robots requires a lot of data. Remote operation is one way to obtain human demonstration data, but this process is becoming increasingly expensive and lengthy. To this end, NVIDIA has also launched a remote operation workflow that supports AI and simulation, allowing researchers and AI developers to generate a large amount of synthetic motion and perception data from a very small amount of remotely captured human demonstrations.

AI developers are already using virtual reality headsets, including Apple’s Vision Pro, to capture a handful of teleoperation demonstrations.

Huang Renxun asked Zuckerberg about his views on the future of smart glasses. Zuckerberg said that smart glasses will be an important form of computer development in the future. He believes that smart glasses will become the mobile version of the next generation computing platform. He mentioned the cooperation between Meta and Ray-Ban and said that it is very important to deploy AR solutions efficiently.
