West China Metropolis Daily (Reporters Tan Yuqing and Ma Xiaoyu) As the main distribution area of alpine wetlands in my country, the Zoige Plateau is an important ecological barrier for the country, but it is facing the challenges of biodiversity loss and weakening wetland service functions. Due to the long-term lack of systematic research and monitoring, the region's scientific and technological innovation capabilities and sustainable development technology research and development are relatively weak.
On July 26, the Ruoergai Wetland Ecology Research Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as Ruoergai Station) was fully put into use in Hongyuan County, Aba Prefecture.
Under the guidance of the national ecological security strategic needs and the world's wetland ecological development trends, the Ruoergai Station will adopt an interdisciplinary and cross-departmental research approach to actively carry out monitoring, research and experimental demonstration work on the protection and sustainable utilization of alpine wetland ecosystems.
The Zoige Station is affiliated to the Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is an important member of the "China Alpine Region Surface Process and Environmental Observation Research Network". Since its establishment, the Zoige Station has systematically carried out research on wetland biodiversity conservation, ecosystem processes, regional ecological restoration and sustainable development with the goal of protecting and restoring alpine wetlands, providing important scientific basis and technical support for my country's ecological security and wetland science research.
"One station and three points" is the current layout of Ruoergai Station. The station construction address is located in the north of Hongyuan County, Aba Prefecture. The three points are Wache test point, Riganqiao test point and Ruokeba test point. The land used for scientific research is more than 450 acres.
The Ruoergai Station covers an area of 30 mu and has a 3,500-square-meter comprehensive building. The station has more than 340 mu of field experimental plots, and has relatively complete wetland water, soil, air, and biological observation sites and auxiliary facilities. It is also equipped with different means of transportation to meet the long-distance field surveys and sample collection work of the research station and surrounding areas.
The full commissioning of the Ruoergai Station is an important milestone in the construction of the National Field Station for Alpine Wetland Ecological Research. The construction of the station has improved the current situation of lack of long-term positioning monitoring and research of alpine wetlands in my country, and enhanced the region's systematic scientific research and agricultural and animal husbandry sustainable development technology research and development and promotion capabilities.
Gao Yongheng, director of the Ruoergai Station, said that after the Ruoergai Station is fully operational, it will provide better working conditions for relevant scientific researchers to carry out more scientific research. "For example, for the most typical peat swamp wetland ecosystem here, in addition to basic monitoring, we can also carry out more in-depth scientific research."
Zoige Wetland is the highest altitude and largest plateau peat swamp in the world, and is also one of the most important water conservation areas in the upper reaches of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. It has important ecological and scientific research value.
"In the future, the Ruoergai Station will further leverage the platform advantages of the field station and strive to become an important scientific and technological service platform for wetland biodiversity conservation, ecosystem processes, regional ecological restoration and sustainable development research, providing important scientific basis and technical support for my country's ecological security and wetland science research." Gao Yongheng said.
