Mary Beth KalausMary Beth Karaus, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, is an American painter who is unique in the field of still life painting. Her artistic cultivation comes from her mother, a passionate artist who cultivated her inner appreciation and understanding of art from an early age.

Over the past nearly 30 years, Karaus has not only been a dedicated mother of four children, but has also continued to pursue her painting career. In recent years, she has focused on still life painting, breaking the boundaries of traditional still life painting.

Karaus's artistic journey began with watercolor painting. She was deeply influenced by Professor Robert James Foose of the University of Kentucky and gradually emerged in the field of watercolor painting. She participated in the watercolor exhibition of the Kentucky Watercolor Society, the Lexington Art League exhibition and the Cincinnati Art Club's Viewpoint Exhibition, and became a signature member of the Cincinnati Art Club.

Despite her notable success in watercolor, Karaus later began studying oil painting and attended a workshop with renowned artist Dan Gerhartz in 2004. This experience sparked her love for oil painting and motivated her to continue to refine her skills. In 2006, she received the highest award of excellence in the Cincinnati Women's Art Club's juried exhibition, an honor that further affirmed her talent in oil painting.

In 2012, Karaus studied classical drawing and painting with artist David Mueller, further refining her skills. In the past decade, her work has been accepted by the Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition seven times, and she was awarded the Signature Membership of the Oil Painters of America in 2015. Her work "Fragile Morning" won the Impressionist Honor Award at the 2017 National Exhibition, and she was also invited to be a presenting artist at the 2017 National Convention.

Karaus’ hard work and talent have been widely recognized. In 2018, she received the Richard Driehaus Foundation’s Dorothy Driehaus Merlin Fellowship for Midwestern Artists and received the Members’ Choice Honor Award at the 27th Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition. In 2019, her painting Rouge of Nature won third place at the Oil Painters of America Virtues Awards. She also received the Award of Excellence at the 2020 Oil Painters of America Wet Painting Exhibition.

Karaus’ work has been selected as a finalist in the Renaissance Center’s international ARC Salon competition, further demonstrating her influence and status in the international art world. She is also an active member of the Cincinnati Art Club, which was founded in 1890 and is the second oldest art club in the United States. In October 2021, she won first place in the CAC Viewpoint 53 exhibition.

Currently, Karaus’ work is exhibited at the Eisele Gallery of Fine Art in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, Texas. Her work has won over audiences and collectors for its exceptional composition, exquisite technique, and delicate handling of light and shadow.
