Earlier today, Fortress of Calamity released its first patch since Early Access, adding the much-anticipated Sandbox mode, in which players will have unlimited resources and can build without restrictions, whether exploring strategic space or simply honing their sense of castle aesthetics.

While it's great to have free access to Calamity's building tools, this addition will also provide some utility in non-sandbox modes. The game allows players to save blueprints, which means that if you design a particularly useful substructure or defense facility, you can save it as a template and quickly deploy it later without having to reposition individual parts. In sandbox mode, you can design and save new blueprints without having to consider the resource restrictions and threats of siege fog in other game modes.

To celebrate the addition of the sandbox mode, Fortress developer Digital Sun is hosting a "Fortress King" building contest on their Discord. The developers will apparently be judging based on unit deployment, strategic considerations, and most importantly, "aesthetics and power."

"Fortress of Disaster" is now available on Steam for early access.
