IT Home reported on July 27 that according to the official WeChat account of State Grid Chongqing Power Supply Company, Chongqing’s first full-area drone intelligent inspection demonstration zone was officially put into operation on July 16.

It is reported that the demonstration area mainly involves UAV power grid distribution line detection, covering the Yongchuan, Rongchang and Shuangqiao power supply areas in Chongqing.Covering 39 outdoor substations, 2,070 km of transmission lines, and 5,120 km of distribution lines, the power grid company staff only need to use the drone smart inspection micro-application on their mobile phones toQuickly check for problems such as abnormal temperature, tree barriers, and insulator damage (discharge) on heavy-load distribution lines in the area, ensuring the safety of power supply in urban areas.

IT Home learned that the State Grid has deployed 23 fixed drone airports in the demonstration area. Every day, drones in the airports will conduct autonomous inspections according to the established inspection tasks. The flight time of a single drone is about 25 minutes each time, and the total flight time per day is about 4 hours., which can detect transmission, transformation and distribution line equipment within an area of 100 square kilometers.

The State Grid Corporation of China said that they have discovered a total of 2,577 defects and hidden dangers using drones, and all related defects have been rectified, making "multi-point real-time monitoring" of the power grid's distribution lines a reality.
