The Paris Olympics has just kicked off, but this Olympics has already made history: this is the first time in 16 years that no new version of the "Mario & Sonic Olympic Games" series has been released.

The first Mario & Sonic Olympic Games game was released on the Wii in 2007, a collaboration between Nintendo and Sega that was considered novel at the time. The game was released a year before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and a new Mario & Sonic game has been released a year before each subsequent Olympics.

We've seen Mario & Sonic games tied to the Vancouver 2010, London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a total of six games spanning more than a decade of Olympic events. However, no similar crossover games were announced for the Paris Olympics in 2023, and now that the opening ceremony has passed, it's safe to say that Nintendo and Sega don't have any secret projects to hide.

Still, there is an official Olympics game this year: Olympics GO! Paris 2024, available on Android, iOS, and the Epic Games Store. If you're used to console-based Olympic games, you might be a little unsure about a mobile-first title, but developer nWay has a solid background with Power Rangers: Energy Wars, an excellent fighting game.
