[SmartCar News] Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe believes TeslaModel Yparameterpicture) is a fantastic car, in fact, he admitted to owning a Tesla Model Y in a recent interview with The Verge.

However, Scaringe believes that too many companies have tried to copy the Model Y, offering similar design, similar size, inferior performance and uncompetitive pricing, which has deprived these companies of the opportunity to stand out and launch a superior product.

Scaringe is a Tesla fan, admitting in the interview that he thinks the Model Y is a great car. "I think it's a great car. I've owned one before," he said in the interview. However, he believes that the electric vehicle market is already flooded with Model Y competitors that are trying to copy the car at every level, which could hinder the growth of the entire industry.

“I think the main reason sales are slowing is because there are so few options,” Scaringe said. “If you want to buy an electric car for less than $50,000, I think the number of good products is very, very small. TeslaModel 3The Tesla and Model Y are great products with great appeal, but they don’t have a lot of competition.”

Scaringe believes that Tesla's competitors would be better off developing an entirely new product from scratch rather than building a car that is essentially a cookie-cutter version of the Model Y. This has led to a massive influx of consumers into Teslas that are essentially the same car. Unfortunately for competitors, consumers will gravitate toward the Tesla brand. Tesla's charging infrastructure, pricing, and overall reputation as an electric car maker are more appealing to car buyers.
