It is an old house built in the 1970s, located deep in a rural alley. It has red bricks and green tiles, wooden windows and doors, and every brick and tile carries a heavy history. I grew up here when I was a child, and those carefree times seem to be right in front of me.
When I went back to my hometown, I suddenly had the idea of restoring the bedroom I lived in when I was a child. That bedroom was once a witness to my childhood. I slept, played, studied, and spent countless days and nights there. I thought that restoring that bedroom might allow me to return to that innocent age and experience the lost youth again.
So, I started this restoration journey. I recalled and restored the old furniture, the mottled wooden bed, the worn-out wardrobe, the worn-out desk, and I put them in place one by one. I also found those old-fashioned decorations, the faded posters, the broken toys, the worn-out photo frames, and I hung them on the wall one by one. I even found those old-fashioned lamps, the dim light bulbs, the rusty lampshades, the swaying shadows, and I installed them one by one. After a month of hard work, I finally restored the small bedroom of the 1980s.
Walking into this restored bedroom, I seemed to have traveled through time and space and returned to that familiar era. I saw myself lying on the bed reading comics, I saw myself lying on the desk doing homework, I saw myself standing in front of the mirror fixing my hair. I saw those laughs, those tears, those dreams. I saw those people who had accompanied me, those who had loved me, and those who had hurt me. I saw the youth that once existed.
What is the purpose of restoring this bedroom? Perhaps it is to pay tribute to the youth in the past! Those youth in the past, those selves in the past, those times in the past, are all worth our remembrance, cherishment, and gratitude. Because it is those youth in the past that have shaped us today. Because it is those youth in the past that have made us who we are.
