Following the release of the global smartphone report for the second quarter of 2024 by the three major data companies, the three companies’ domestic reports on the second quarter have also been released. Today I will interpret Counterpoint’s report for you.

Counterpoint believes that the domestic smartphone market grew 6% year-on-year in the second quarter, but did not provide shipment data for major brands, only rankings and comparisons with the same period. Data shows that vivo ranks first with a market share of 18.5%, an increase of 11.1% year-on-year; Apple ranks second with a market share of 15.5%, a year-on-year decline of 5.7%; Huawei ranks third with a market share of 15.4%, a year-on-year increase of 44.5%; Xiaomi ranks fourth with a market share of 15.3%, a year-on-year increase of 16.3%; Honor ranks fifth with a market share of 15.2%, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%; OPPO ranks sixth with a market share of 14.6%, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%.

The report also analyzes the specific performance of each brand:

vivo:

Vivo continues to maintain its leading position in China. At the same time, it has also optimized its product portfolio, with the sales share of the high-end X series increasing significantly year-on-year;

apple:

The increase was mainly due to price cuts during the 618 shopping festival. In particular, the iPhone 15 Pro series accounted for 50% of sales in the second quarter, exceeding the iPhone 14 Pro series in the same period. This shows that domestic users prefer the higher-end Pro series models, but the price must be competitive.

Huawei:

Mainly due to the hot sales of Huawei Pura 70 series and Huawei Nvoa12 series, Huawei became the brand with the highest year-on-year growth rate in Q2. However, Huawei still needs to work harder, because everyone expects it to become the number one brand in China.

In fact, the most unexpected thing about this ranking is that Xiaomi surpassed Honor, and OPPO ranked sixth. However, except for vivo, which has a leading advantage, the gap between Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Honor is negligible, with only a 0.1 percentage point difference between each. OPPO needs to work harder, because it is the only domestic brand that has declined year-on-year.
