Lei Jun mentioned the topic of being called "Director Lei" during the live broadcast of his annual speech on the evening of July 23. Previously, many netizens believed that Xiaomi was just an assembly plant with no technical content.

However, Lei Jun obviously disagrees with this statement. He said that Xiaomi mobile phones are not simply made by taking parts and then assembling and releasing them.

Lei Jun also pointed out that many competitors, including Apple, use the OEM model, and so does Xiaomi. However, he does not understand why some people call Xiaomi an assembly plant.

In fact, Xiaomi is only doing some OEM now, after all, Xiaomi has its own manufacturing plant. The two latest Xiaomi foldable screen mobile phones are produced in the Xiaomi smart factory in Changping, Beijing.

Xiaomi's smart factory has achieved 100% automation of key processes and 100% digitization of industrial production. The self-developed "Xiaomi Pengpai Intelligent Manufacturing Platform" enables the entire factory to have self-perception, self-decision-making, and self-execution capabilities. It can independently diagnose equipment problems, improve process flows, and achieve full-scenario digital management from raw material procurement to delivery, becoming a truly smart factory that can evolve on its own.

In contrast, Apple does not have its own factories. The production of its mobile phones is entirely outsourced, and in order to share the risks, they are assembled in different parts of the world.
