IT Home reported on July 23 that China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation released a news update through its official Weibo today.It was announced that the first 9,000-car large car carrier (PCTC) was officially started and ignited on July 18, 2024.

This first ship was built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, for the Italian company GRIMALDI. It is another large-scale car carrier project that has officially started construction following the first 8,600-car car carrier built by Waigaoqiao Shipyard in March this year, marking that the company has entered a new stage of serial construction of car carriers.

IT Home learned from official reports that the ship was designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute under China Shipbuilding Group.Total length 199.9 meters, beam 38 meters, depth 14.8 meters, design draft 9.2 meters, design speed 19 knots, and is classified by RINA.

The vessel has a loading capacity of 9,000 vehicles and can transport electric and fossil fuel vehicles as well as other types of heavy ro-ro cargo (up to 250 tons).

It is understood that Waigaoqiao Shipyard currently has 16 orders for three types of car carriers with capacity of 8,600 cars, 9,000 cars and 10,800 cars, forming a serialized and batch construction pattern.
