According to a report by the Hindustan Times on July 22, the Indian Navy said in a statement that a major fire broke out on the Indian Navy's frigate Brahmaputra during its modification and it is currently capsized. The Indian Navy also stated that officials are searching for a sailor who went missing after the fire.

Public information shows that the Brahmaputra frigate was commissioned in 2000 and was built by the state-owned Garden Reach Shipbuilding & Engineering Co., Ltd.

The Indian Navy said that the frigate "Brahmaputra" caught fire at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard on July 21. With the assistance of the fire department, the crew had controlled the fire, but then the warship "tilted" to the port side. The Indian Navy also said that except for one sailor, all personnel on the warship have been found. The search and rescue is still ongoing. The Indian Navy has ordered an investigation into the accident.

According to the Indian newspaper The Print, the Indian military is currently working to salvage the frigate to determine the exact extent of the damage to the warship. The report also stated that the Indian Navy has had frequent accidents in recent years, including the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier.
