It’s been 16 months since Apple launched the Apple Music Classical app for iOS and since then has expanded its availability around the world. Now it’s launching a new chart, compiling a top 100 chart each week based on listening data from more than 165 countries.

“Apple Music Classical has been a huge hit with classical music fans around the world,” said Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music and Beats at Apple. “With the launch of the Apple Classical Top 100 and recently announced new partnerships, the app is transforming the world of classical music.”

The new Top 100 chart is updated every Monday and can be found in the Apple Music Classical app or on the Top 100 website. The chart is compiled from five sources, using listening data from more than 165 countries, which Apple says are:

  • Apple Music Classical Music Streaming

  • Apple Music Streaming

  • iTunes Download

  • iTunes song sales

  • Shazam Tags

Apple says these sources from different countries make the Apple Music Classical Top 100 the "most comprehensive and representative chart yet."

In this issue, Chinese pianist Du Tianqi's collaboration with St. Martins Field School for Bach Keyboard Concerto topped the list, conducted by Jonathan Bloxham.

"I am deeply honored that my latest album has topped the inaugural Apple Classical Top 100 chart. These concertos bring Bach's energy and spirit to life with rich emotion and expressiveness, and I am grateful to Apple Music Classical for providing such a great platform," said Du. "It helps us as musicians connect with classical music lovers around the world."

Apple Music Classical is an app separate from the main Apple Music app and requires an Apple Music subscription to use it.

The new Classical 100 follows the company's Pop and Rock 100. However, the list is a one-off selection chosen by experts rather than being data-driven.
