While US President Biden was in quarantine at home due to infection with the new coronavirus, an intense "palace fight" broke out within the Democratic Party of the United States. Some Democratic congressmen instigated Vice President Harris to replace Biden in the 2024 US election.

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren declared that if the current president drops out of the race, Harris is “ready to step up.” This is the rhythm of forcing Harris to run for the election.

A July 21 CNBC News report stated that Vice President Harris has received more public support from Democratic lawmakers as a potential replacement for President Biden if Biden decides to drop out of the race against former President Trump.

California Rep. Mark Takano on Saturday became the 36th Democrat in Congress to call on Biden to withdraw from the race. He said he believes Harris should be the new helmsman.

"President Biden's greatest achievement remains saving American democracy in 2020, but he can and must do it again in 2024 — by passing the torch to Vice President Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee," Takano said in a statement.

"It is clear to me that the new campaign should now be run by the vice president, who can transition seamlessly into the role of standard-bearer for our party," he said.

Takano was one of several senior members of the Democratic Party committee who expressed concerns about Biden's re-election campaign during a private meeting with House Democratic leadership in early July.

While some Democrats have been pushing for an open convention if Biden drops out, Takano has positioned himself among a faction within the party that sees Harris as the rightful heir to the top job and the campaign's coffers of at least $91 million.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said Saturday that Harris is "ready to step up and unite the party" if President Biden decides to drop out of the race. Warren has not formally called on Biden to drop out.

"Biden is our nominee. He has a very big decision to make, but we are very fortunate to have Vice President Harris. Eighty million people voted for her, and she will step up if she is needed," Warren said in the interview.

"If you're running against a convicted felon, a prosecutor like Kamala is really the best person to prosecute that case," she added.

Since incumbent President Biden's botched performance in his first televised debate with former President Trump on June 27, looming concerns about his age and ability to win in November have created deep rifts within the Democratic Party. Dozens of Democratic lawmakers, donors and strategists have called on him to drop out of the race, despite Biden's firm commitment to stay in the race.

The Washington Post reported Saturday that some donors are organizing funds and vetting possible vice presidential picks in case the current Democratic ticket changes.

While the Democratic divide widens, President Biden himself remains in quarantine in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, due to COVID-19. The Biden campaign continues to publicly resist growing pressure to drop out, promising that the president will remain in the race and return to the campaign trail once he recovers.

"As soon as we recover from the infection, we'll be back on track," Biden campaign spokesman Michael Taylor told reporters Saturday morning. Taylor expects Biden to resume campaign activities next week.

According to the latest news from White House physician Kevin O'Connor, Biden completed his sixth round of antiviral treatment with the drug Paxlovid on Saturday and is recovering steadily.
