The Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL can help you capture clearer selfies thanks to a major upgrade to their front-facing cameras. Leaked marketing materials shared by Android Authority show that the 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL are equipped with a 50-megapixel autofocus selfie camera.

The selfie camera, rear ultra-wide-angle camera, and telephoto camera are all rumored to use a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 image sensor, while the main rear camera may use a 50-megapixel sensor from Samsung. The video posted on TikTok provides an early look at the Pixel 9 Pro camera in action, showing up to 30x Super Resolution Zoom - just like the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8. The equipment used in the video appears to be the same leaked hardware that the account showed off last week.

Marketing materials also suggest the base Pixel 9 could feature a 10.5-megapixel autofocus selfie camera. While not as impressive as the rumored 50-megapixel rear camera on the Pro models, it would still be an upgrade over the base Pixel 8's 10-megapixel selfie camera (without autofocus). The dual-camera setup on the back of the standard Pixel 9 could use the same 50-megapixel Samsung main camera sensor and 50-megapixel Sony ultra-wide-angle sensor as the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, but without the telephoto lens.

On the other hand, the rumored Pixel Fold 2 may only feature a minor camera upgrade. Google may also be working on adding 8K video encoding at 30 frames per second, but we don’t yet know which Pixel devices will support that feature or if it will be available at launch.

We'll be keeping an eye out for an upgraded selfie camera and the rumored ultrasonic fingerprint sensor at Google's hardware event on August 13.
