According to Indian media reports, PC giant Acer is planning to return to the smartphone market.

India's Indkal Technologies announced that it has signed a licensing cooperation agreement with Acer to design, manufacture and sell Acer-branded smartphone products in India.

Acer entered the smartphone market around 2010 and launched mobile phone products based on Windows Mobile and Android systems. It also cooperated with Alibaba to launch an Alibaba Cloud system phone.

However, due to various reasons, Acer eventually gradually withdrew from this field.

The mobile phones jointly developed by the two parties will mainly target the mid-range market, with a price range of 15,000 to 50,000 rupees (approximately RMB 1,303 to RMB 4,345).

Indkal has set an ambitious target of manufacturing 1 million devices per year and is actively applying for funding under the Indian government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

This move will not only help improve production efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs, but will also further promote the development of India's local smartphone industry.

Jade Zhou, vice president of global strategic alliances at Acer, said this will expand the choices of end users and enrich their experience in the Indian market. At the same time, the mobile phones will follow the "Make in India" initiative, be manufactured locally in India, and have advanced software technology.
