Securities Times reporter noted that in this live broadcast, Yu Chengdong not only introduced Huawei's numerous technological innovations, but also responded to some current hot issues. For example, regarding the reason for the previous "2.5 billion transfer of Wenjie", he said: "The Wenjie brand is now sold to Seres at a very low price. (This is) because national regulations require that the brand owner and the manufacturer must be one, and the brand must be owned by the manufacturer, so we transferred all four 'jies' to the car manufacturer."

Yu Chengdong also said that Huawei has invested a lot in the brand, and this brand is worth at least tens of billions of yuan. "And even the name AITO has been transferred. It is very difficult to register a four-letter brand starting with AI globally. It is a very good name."

Yu Chengdong: Sitting on the bench for ten years

In April this year, Huawei officially announced that the Huawei P series will be upgraded to Huawei Pura. In the live broadcast, Yu Chengdong said, "Pura is Spanish, which means purity. This year I have been in charge of Huawei terminals, and I have always required us to adhere to the extremely simple and pure design language. The Pura brand slogan is to pursue your heart and forge ahead, which means to be able to keep making progress and overcome difficulties."

During the live broadcast, Yu Chengdong introduced Huawei's breakthroughs in a large number of mobile phones and new energy vehicles. For example, in satellite communications, Huawei is also the first in the industry to do so and completely hide the antenna. Yu Chengdong said: "Huawei's most powerful antenna expert led the team to achieve this major breakthrough in the antenna field. Our company has always had a slogan called "Sitting on the bench for ten years", which means working in a field for 10, 20, or 30 years to finally become an expert in this field."

At the same time, Yu Chengdong also said, "I am a very silent person. Can you imagine? When teachers and classmates get together, I am the most silent person at the table. I am back to my comfortable state in the past. But I have no choice but to speak in this job, because we have to hold press conferences every day as ToC, which is not what I like. English is also the most difficult thing for me to learn."

However, during the live broadcast, Dong Yuhui had another comment on Yu Chengdong: "When it comes to technology, you are eloquent and your thinking is extremely active."

Yu Chengdong said that when he joined Huawei, it was just a small company with more than 200 people. Today, Huawei has 210,000 people, almost half of whom are R&D personnel. The annual R&D expenditure is several hundred billion yuan, which ranks among the top in the world. "Huawei can get to where it is today because of the most basic spirit of our company: customer-centric, striver-oriented, and long-term hard work."

Yu Chengdong said that Huawei has been able to get to where it is today because Ren Zhengfei has adhered to the most basic spirit, such as always requiring managers to be self-critical. "Not only self-critical but also criticism, I am often criticized." Yu Chengdong said that he felt that although some criticisms were misunderstandings, some of them were also his own shortcomings. "(Criticism) means that there are requirements for you and hope that you can do better. In many places, I and my team have not done enough."

How great is Songshan Lake?

It is understood that the Songshan Lake in Dongguan that Dong Yuhui visited this time has a great background, especially in recent years with the support of Huawei, its development has become more and more rapid.

It is understood that the relationship between Huawei and Dongguan Songshan Lake can be traced back to 2005. That year, Dongguan Songshan Lake signed a project investment agreement with Huawei Investment Holding Co., Ltd. to establish Huawei's Southern Factory, which was officially put into production in 2009; in 2012, the two parties signed an investment agreement to establish Huawei's terminal headquarters; in 2018, Huawei Xiliu Beipo Village was officially unveiled, and the light of technology shines between the lake and mountains...

The urban narrative of Huawei and Dongguan "running towards each other" began with mobile phones, but it is not limited to mobile phones. Since 2019, the Huawei Developer Conference, which has attracted widespread global attention, has been held in Dongguan Songshan Lake Science City for six consecutive years, witnessing the entire process from the emergence of Hongmeng to the birth of "pure-blooded" Hongmeng.

Behind all this, Dongguan's forward-looking layout is indispensable. In 2001, Dongguan invested in the future and planned ahead for the transformation and innovation of its development model. It set aside a piece of land of 72 square kilometers at the junction of Dalang, Dalingshan and Liaobu towns and named it Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park, which was clearly defined as the economic and technological center of Dongguan in the future. With the goal of "rebuilding a Dongguan", Songshan Lake was born and became Dongguan's "first move" for the future.

Building a city requires long-term efforts. In the past 2023, Songshan Lake's annual GDP exceeded 90 billion yuan for the first time, an increase of 11.8%, ranking first in Dongguan City; in 2024, Songshan Lake set a development goal: to strive to exceed 100 billion yuan in GDP.

In July 2020, Songshan Lake ushered in the biggest opportunity in its development history - Songshan Lake Science City was included in the pilot launch area of ​​the Greater Bay Area Comprehensive National Science Center, becoming an important strategic platform for Dongguan to participate in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center and to represent the country in international competition and cooperation in the new era, taking a fundamental transformation from "park" to "city".

Following the national science cities of Hefei, Anhui, Huairou, Beijing, and Zhangjiang, Shanghai, Songshan Lake Science City has become an important part of the pilot launch area of ​​the Greater Bay Area Comprehensive National Science Center, the fourth national science center in the country. Here, the world's fourth and China's first pulsed spallation neutron source, the China Spallation Neutron Source has achieved the "acceleration" of large scientific facilities, and the second phase of the project has started construction. Here, the Attosecond Science Center was unveiled, and the advanced attosecond laser facility will start construction this year; the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory has made a number of major scientific research advances, and the "Songshan Lake Model" of scientific and technological achievements transformation has been cultivated; the Southern Light Source Research and Testing Platform has been put into use; the Greater Bay Area University (Songshan Lake Campus) has made the latest progress, and the City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) will officially enroll students in September this year.

At present, Songshan Lake has formed a 100 billion-level intelligent mobile terminal industry cluster led by Huawei. There are more than 16,000 market entities, including 7 listed companies, 27 specialized and new "little giant" enterprises, 138 provincial specialized and new enterprises, 1 100 billion yuan enterprise, 7 10 billion yuan enterprises, 4 5 billion yuan enterprises, 20 1 billion yuan enterprises, and the added value of advanced manufacturing accounts for 39.7%, and the added value of high-tech manufacturing accounts for 86.1%. It has been rated as a national green industry demonstration base and a national foreign trade transformation and upgrading base.
