IT Home reported on July 16 that Apple yesterday offered a new product to iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch users. The first public beta versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15 Sequoia, and watchOS 11 were released

iOS/iPadOS 18

Apple's first public beta version of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 mainly includes many new functions and features in the previous developer preview version, but the Apple Intelligence function has not yet been enabled.

The Apple Intelligence function is limited to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads equipped with M1 or above chips, and Mac products.

Apple also re-pushed the iOS Beta 3 test version update to developer users today. The latest internal version number is 22A5307i, while the version number released last week was 22A5307f. It is not clear what has been fixed.

IT Home previously reported and shared the main contents of the iOS/iPadOS 18 Beta 3 update, including the addition of "dynamic" wallpapers, the introduction of dark mode for home page applications, optimization of photo applications, and more.

Dark mode icon

Apple introduced a new technology in the iOS/iPadOS 18 update that can actively switch the app icons on the home screen to dark mode. The feature should use some kind of machine learning image separation technology.

Many third-party applications such as Facebook, Etsy, Telegram, Signal, Slack, Notion, YouTube, etc. have dark mode icons, and after the feature is enabled, those applications with less colorful icons automatically switch to dark icons.

In some icons, the secondary color becomes the primary color and the background color becomes black, and in others, the white icon background transitions to black.

Default wallpaper

The default wallpaper for iOS 18 Beta 3 has been updated to include a new color-changing "Dynamic" option. If this new dynamic setting is enabled, the color of the wallpaper will change at different times of the day.

Photos App

Apple has added a Select button for selecting multiple images to the main Photos interface, so you no longer have to swipe down to get to the Select button.

Emoji

In the Messages app, emojis, Memojis, and stickers are all combined into a single interface that users can navigate using small icons at the bottom of the display.

Users can tap on icons to access stickers or Memoji, and can also scroll through Memoji to find specific characters and poses more quickly.

Flashlight interface

When users activate the flashlight or tap the control button on the Smart Island, a larger, more intuitive interface appears for changing the brightness and range of the LED flash used by the flashlight function.

Maps

Apple has once again adjusted the color of the Maps icon in dark mode.

RCS in Messages

The RCS interface in the Messages settings no longer only displays an on/off button, and users can get additional relevant information after clicking it.

Some iPhone users in Canada and other countries are also now seeing RCS toggle, but it's unclear whether RCS is working properly outside the United States.

Apple Intelligence

The code mentions some of Apple's smart features, further suggesting that artificial intelligence will soon be added to the iOS 18 beta. The code mentions Genmoji, Image Playground, Writing Tools, Image Wand and other features.

Focus Mode

In focus mode, the Messages app no longer displays the names of contacts with muted notifications, instead it will just say "Message."

macOS 15 Sequoia

macOS 15 Sequoia has the following major improvements:

iPhone Mirroring

iPhone mirroring allows Mac users to mirror the iPhone screen to the Mac device, interact with the iPhone, receive iPhone notifications on the Mac, and seamlessly drag and drop between the Mac and iPhone.

Users can enable the iPhone mirroring function by clicking the new iPhone mirroring icon on their Mac devices and following the instructions. Users can open and use apps, manage notifications, etc. when the iPhone is locked.

Window Tiling

There are new options for window tiling. Dragging a window to the edge of the display will prompt a tiling position, making it easier to use multiple apps at the same time.

Other Improvements

Apple also added a new Passwords app for managing passwords, Safari can summarize website content and display key information, and Notes supports real-time audio transcription and mathematical formulas.

watchOS 11 Activity Rings

Activity Rings has a more flexible setting, and finally supports setting "rest days", allowing users to maintain fitness motivation while relaxing reasonably without affecting the progress of medal acquisition. In addition, users can also set personalized activity ring goals for different days of the week, such as higher goals on weekdays and a little more relaxed on weekends.

Training Load

Want to improve your training level? The new "Training Load" feature in watchOS 11 will estimate your exercise load and allow you to adjust it after the exercise. It calculates the user's exercise intensity and training load by integrating heart rate, altitude, exercise duration, age and weight, and helps users arrange exercise plans scientifically.

vitality

watchOS 11 introduces a new health data app "Vitals", which can intuitively present your health data, allowing you to more easily understand your health status and make decisions that are conducive to a healthy lifestyle. The app allows users to intuitively view daily health data and compare it with historical data.

The system will highlight data that exceeds the user's health norm and provide comprehensive analysis information to help users understand the possible impact of these data changes. For example, if a user has multiple health indicators that are abnormal at the same time, the system will give targeted prompts.

Menstrual Tracking

The "Menstrual Tracking" function designed specifically for women's health has been upgraded. It can now estimate the gestational period and visually present pregnancy-related information in a chart, such as changes in the high heart rate notification threshold.

Smart overlay widget

Smart Stack will also become smarter, and the system will automatically add practical widgets according to different scenarios. For example, when users travel abroad, the translation app will automatically appear in the smart stack; when it is about to rain, the weather app will also appear in time. In addition, watchOS 11 also introduces the "Live Activities" feature, which allows users to obtain various information in real time.

Workout Links

It is worth mentioning that watchOS 11 also adds a new exercise link function. After completing outdoor sports such as late-night running, users can share their exercise process with friends to let them know your safety status. This update also brings a translation app to Apple Watch, allowing users to translate languages directly on the watch.
