According to Fast Technology on July 16, Windows 11 has redesigned the start menu. Although it is controversial, it is actually quite useful. There is just one flaw: after installing too many applications, the scrolling list will be very long, making it difficult to find what you need.
In the latest Windows 11 22635.3930 test version, Microsoft hid a new feature that attempts to redesign the application list of the start menu and adds a "Category" mode.
In this mode, applications are automatically categorized according to different attributes and displayed in a large grid layout, such as development tools, entertainment, music, map navigation, news and weather, others, etc.
This new feature is still under development and testing and has not been completed, so each category is displayed as a four-color square. I don’t know whether it will be equipped with different exclusive icons in the future, or whether it will display the icons of the four most commonly used applications in each category.
Previously, Microsoft also tested adding a "grid" mode to the start menu application list, which would arrange different applications horizontally in alphabetical order, making them easier to find.
Microsoft has recently tested a lot of adjustments to the Windows 11 start menu, such as adding a new panel on the right to display mobile phone connections and related operations.
In addition to general options, the right-click menu of a pinned application will also display specific items, such as recent files, screenshots, and timer options in the screenshot tool.
The account manager can view account details without opening the settings, but advertisements for other products such as Microsoft 365 and Cloud Storage will also appear, which has been criticized a lot.
