IT Home reported on July 15 that Google announced Android 5 (Android 5.0 Lollipop) at Google I/O in June 2014 and officially launched it in November of the same year. This can be said to be a classic operating system version. The first mobile phone pre-installed with Android 5.0 was the Nexus 6 manufactured by Motorola.

Today, Google announced that it will officially end support for Android 5 (5.X), and the Google Play service for the series of devices will no longer be updated.Google mentioned that less than 1% of active devices are running Android 5.0-5.1.1, so "now is the time to invest relevant resources in other areas."

Android 5.X was first released in November 2014, nearly 10 years ago. Since then, we have introduced many innovative improvements and features to this system, which are not available on Android 5.X. Today, we announced that we will stop providing Google Play services updates for Android 5.X devices because these devices account for less than 1% of active devices. The series of devices will continue to run, but will not receive any new features and important security updates, and may be incompatible with some applications. We strongly recommend that users upgrade to a newer Android version to get the latest features and security enhancements.

According to IT Home's previous report, Google terminated support for Android 4.4 (Android 4.4 KitKat) in July last year; according to Google's support page, Google currently supports at least Android 6.0 (Android 6.0 Marshmallow), and it is expected that this version will stop supporting in July next year.
