People familiar with the matter told Reuters on the 14th that Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is advancing negotiations to acquire cybersecurity startup Wiz for approximately US$23 billion.

The person familiar with the matter said the acquisition will be mainly a cash transaction and is expected to take place in the near future.

Founded in Israel and now headquartered in New York, USA, Viz is one of the fastest growing software startups in the world, providing cloud-based cybersecurity solutions that can monitor cyber threats in real time and respond using artificial intelligence technology.

The report said the deal would challenge the U.S. government's regulation of large technology companies' acquisitions of small businesses. In recent years, U.S. regulators have been wary of large technology companies expanding their scale through mergers and acquisitions.

Weisz wrote on its official website that its revenue in 2023 is about $350 million, and it cooperates with 40% of the top 100 companies in the world as counted by Fortune magazine. Weisz raised $1 billion in the latest round of private financing, with a corporate valuation of $12 billion.

According to statistics from Dealogic, a US company, technology companies accounted for the largest proportion of corporate mergers and acquisitions in the first half of this year, with transaction amounts increasing by 42% year-on-year to US$327.2 billion. (Xinhua News Agency)
