in the 2024 medical grand challenge (mgc) finals, the neurovisionaries, a student team from peking university, stood out from nearly 60 teams from all over the world and won the nascent track china championship and global third place.
after three rounds of online evaluation and two rounds of offline defense, the team launched the "ai-based wearable multi-modal eye-cranial pressure monitoring and control system". the results were highly praised by many expert judges.
the team has carried out the research and development of a multi-modal non-invasive intracranial pressure monitoring and control system based on ai. by combining multi-modal non-invasive measurement methods, they hope to obtain more accurate and comprehensive intraocular pressure and intracranial pressure data than a single method, and innovate xingxing developed the icp kit and finally achieved ideal results.
this method uses a "3+1" device strategy: transcranial doppler headband, smart contact lenses, and tympanic pressure earbuds for non-invasive, continuous icp measurement , supplemented by a pressure waistband (pressure waistband) for long-term intracranial pressure regulation in patients with low icp levels.
the team also developed an abdominal pressure control device—a timed and dosed pressure belt that increases intracranial pressure by inducing a valsalva-like maneuver. this provides a new means of physical control for patients with long-term low intracranial pressure and provides a controllable, portable self-management tool that simplifies the treatment process and improves quality of life.
according to reports, the medical grand challenge is a medical innovation project initiated by the yong loo lin school of medicine at the national university of singapore and led by students. it aims to encourage medical students to identify unmet medical needs and form interdisciplinary teams with students from other schools (2~ 8 people), exploring creative and outside-the-box solutions to meet these needs. activities include preliminary preparation and finals. the finals will be held offline at the national university of singapore medical education center. the evaluation criteria include creativity, design quality, medical impact and business strategy. it is a comprehensive examination of students' innovation ability and cooperative spirit. the competition attracts dozens of teams from top universities around the world every year.
