in july 1952, the northeast design branch of the northeast electric power administration (the predecessor of china energy engineering northeast institute) received an arduous task: to build a new railway from the songhua river, the largest in asia at the time, within one year and nine months. starting from the hydropower station, passing through dongling, it reaches the 220 kv high-voltage transmission line in lishizhai, delivering a steady stream of power to the country's industrial construction.

however, the challenges faced by the songdong-li transmission line (codenamed "project 506") far exceed the expectations of the young engineers of the northeast research institute. during the design stage, they were divided into four teams and conducted surveys in sections. however, equipment standards in different countries were not uniform, resulting in the drawings not being able to be spliced ​​together. engineers spent eight months and conducted three surveys along the line, but the project still ran into trouble. in desperation, they realized they had to solve the standardization problem first. therefore, starting from the unified design guidelines, all employees were trained intensively, and finally a full line retest was conducted in april 1953, and all more than 900 tower positions were accurately located.
