microsoft executives have promised employees the flexibility of remote work, but the company may revisit its stance based on productivity levels.

according to business insider, citing sources, scott guthrie, executive vice president of microsoft's cloud and ai division, recently told employees that microsoft will not follow amazon's five-day-a-week work requirement in the office and has no current plans to change its remote work policy. guthrie told employees at a recent internal meeting that the company would not consider changing the policy unless it noticed a drop in productivity metrics, according to two employees who were present.

according to fortune magazine, microsoft would not specify what the productivity metrics are and how the company tracks them.

microsoft currently has a flexible policy that allows most employees to work remotely. many of the company's open positions allow employees ultimately hired to work from home at least 50% of the time. (it home)
