dedicate yourself to water the flowers on the border with love

"there is only desolate desert, not desolate life." this is the motto of hou chaoru, a graduate of the history department of baoding university in hebei province. when she first came to qiemo, everything here was a challenge. whether it was the living, working environment or food culture, she felt unfamiliar and uncomfortable.

"when i first came here, i was extremely uncomfortable with the climate, because living in the north china plain, it rains all year round and the climate is humid. however, in qiemo county, it is just the opposite. the climate is very dry. but now i have fully adapted to it. after all, i have lived in qiemo for 24 years. , it’s already considered the last one,” hou chaoru said.

over the years, she has devoted all her efforts to the children and has become their favorite teacher and "mom" in their eyes.

nourmanguli yiming, a 2010 graduate, is a very introverted uighur girl. teacher hou often talks to her and helps her open up.

in the second semester of her sophomore year in high school, nuermanguli did not come back to school once. teacher hou called and found out that her father had passed away due to illness, so he immediately rushed to nuermanguli's home to comfort her, which made her feel deep warmth.

"at that time, there were only two uyghur students in the class, one was numanguli and the other was aziguli musa." hou chaoru recalled that one day in 2009, aziguli suffered from appendicitis. the students immediately sent him to the hospital and made arrangements for his hospitalization. at that time, aziguli's family members were not around. her father was a veterinarian in a pastoral area. it was already evening when she arrived at the hospital.

"actually, it's not a big deal. i just did what a people's teacher should do, but her father has always kept it in mind. from the time the child graduated from high school and graduate school to the present, we have kept in close contact. but one day in 2022 "her father passed away due to illness. i am very sad and will treat aziguli as my own child and will not cut off contact with her," hou chaoru said.

passing on the torch and building a better future together

like hou chaoru, li guizhi, known as "the teacher who cannot be blown away by strong winds", also came to qiemo county to teach. "i had just graduated and was facing the problem of finding a job. at this time, the principal asked who wanted to teach in qiemo. there was a shortage of teachers there, so i came with the mentality of giving it a try. i didn't expect to stay for 24 years."

under the guidance of teachers such as hou chaoru and li guizhi, groups of children walked out of the desert and experienced different lives. many people also follow the footsteps of their teachers and choose to return to their hometowns after graduation to build their hometowns.

they are distributed in all walks of life, including sun kang who works at the airport, seimaitijiang sidik, who serves as the vice principal of qiemo county no. 6 primary school, and abbas, who works as an english teacher at qiemo county no. 2 middle school. jiang turxun, wei xiaoya, a "post-95" people's teacher who graduated in 2016...

“many returning college students are grateful for our education back then,” li guizhi said.

"there were many students who impressed me deeply during my volunteer teaching trip. for example, luo xinpeng was admitted to the higher education class in qiemo, and finally to peking university. there was also a student whose family conditions were not very good. once i went to his home during the home visit, my parents brought me the remaining eggs to stir-fry. this incident still impresses me and makes me feel that all the efforts are worth it," said li guizhi.

the journey of supporting education is passed down from generation to generation. the arrival of the hebei baoding college qiemo volunteer teaching service team not only injects new vitality into qiemo county’s education, but also builds a solid bridge for national unity and jointly composes a harmonious movement of national unity. they used practical actions to fulfill their oath of "supporting education with sincerity, and supporting education with sincerity", allowing children in the western part of the motherland to feel the care and warmth of the party and the country. for this reason, they were awarded honorary titles such as "china youth may 4th medal collective" .
