ifeng.com technology news on september 30, ten months after the tesla cybertruck was first released, some models have finally ushered in the activation of tesla's fully self-driving (fsd) software.
after many delays, the first batch of tesla cybertrucks will be delivered to car owners on november 30, 2023. however, these vehicles did not come with tesla's much-hyped fsd software at the time.in the past, models released by tesla, such as model 3 and model y, were able to use the latest version of autopilot or fsd software immediately after release. however, due to the large differences between cybertruck's size, sensor suite and control mechanism and other tesla models, this feature was not enabled when it was first released. although tesla is willing to sell fsd access to car owners, the driver assistance system has been inactive until then.
now, the wait is finally over, and some cybertruck owners have been able to use their long-awaited fsd software. according to a post on the cybertruckownersclub forum, through the 2024.32.20 version of the software update, some users invited to join the early access program have begun accessing the fsd function from the 29th.
the update is marked as "early access," meaning only a handful of owners can currently enjoy it. there's no word yet on when a wider version of the software will be released to other cybertruck owners, but it's expected to be available in the coming weeks. at the same time, the update is also labeled as fsd version 12.5.5, which is the latest available version of fsd, while most tesla vehicles are still using fsd version 12.5.4.
as the first videos of the fsd-equipped cybertruck began to circulate online, this forum post appeared to be the first report on the internet. more content is expected to show off how the truck runs its new software in the coming hours.
it is worth noting thatwhile full fsd functionality is new, the cybertruck already gained autonomous parking capabilities earlier this month.although tesla has promised that cybertruck will be fully equipped with fsd by the end of september, most owners still have to wait longer to enjoy this feature.
in the same statement, tesla also revealed that more features will be added to fsd, with version 13 due to be released next month, which will increase the number of miles required between interventions. last week, an independent analysis showed that fsd only travels about 13 miles per intervention on average, so there's still plenty of room for improvement in this area.
in addition, tesla also said that fsd will be available in china and europe in the first quarter of next year, but both services require regulatory approval, so it may take longer for the software to be officially launched. (author/han tianshu)
