september 25, 2024the tangshan intermediate people's court of hebei province held a public trial at the first instance of the case of embezzlement and bribery by tang shuangning, former party secretary and chairman of china everbright group co., ltd.

the people's procuratorate of tangshan city filed a lawsuit alleging that in april 2003, the defendant tang shuangning took advantage of his position as the director of the first department of banking supervision of the people's bank of china to take public property worth rmb 3.015 million that was in his custody and use.tang shuangningtaking advantage of his positions as director of the first department of banking supervision of the people's bank of china, member of the party committee and vice chairman of the china banking regulatory commission, party secretary and chairman of china everbright group co., ltd., and party secretary and chairman of china everbright bank co., ltd., he provided assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as job adjustments and loan acquisition, and directly or through others illegally accepted property totaling more than rmb 11.02 million. the procuratorate requested that tang shuangning be held criminally responsible for the crimes of embezzlement and bribery.

during the trial, the procuratorate presented relevant evidence, the defendant tang shuangning and his defense counsel conducted cross-examination, and the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court. tang shuangning made a final statement and expressed his guilt and remorse in court.

at the end of the trial, the court announced a recess and the verdict will be announced at a later date.

more than 30 people, including relatives of the defendant, npc deputies, cppcc members, journalists and people from all walks of life, attended the trial.
