according to the supreme people's procuratorate, in recent years, courts and procuratorates at all levels across the country have attached great importance to the punishment of crimes endangering the safety of edible agricultural products. in the three years since the launch of the special campaign of "cracking down on illegal drugs, controlling drug residues and promoting improvement", procuratorates across the country have approved the arrest of 8,593 people in 4,936 cases of crimes endangering food safety, and prosecuted 35,015 people in 18,566 cases. among them, 1,530 people were approved for arrest in 751 cases of crimes endangering the safety of edible agricultural products, and 4,545 people were prosecuted in 1,991 cases. a total of 16,070 cases of crimes endangering food safety were concluded by courts across the country at the first instance, including 1,429 cases involving 11 varieties of edible agricultural products that were the focus of the special campaign. at the same time, the "two highs" further revised and improved relevant judicial interpretations, tightened the criminal law network, and provided a normative basis for cracking down on such crimes in accordance with the law.

the supreme people's procuratorate stated that in the next step, the "two highs" will severely punish crimes that endanger the safety of edible agricultural products in accordance with the law, further improve the law enforcement coordination mechanism in the field of edible agricultural product safety, actively participate in the comprehensive management of edible agricultural product safety, make full use of the power of the rule of law, and effectively protect the lives, health and safety of the people.
