it is worth mentioning that this is the first time that this event has entered the city games. according to the relevant person in charge of the chongqing roller skating association, the entry of "niche events" into major competitions is closely related to the sports preferences of the younger generation - skateboarding, as an extreme sport, has always been a way for young people to prove themselves and challenge their limits. with the continued rise in the public's enthusiasm for skateboarding, in 2016, the international olympic committee announced that skateboarding would become an official olympic event, entering the olympic family for the first time. this year, in the women's street skateboarding competition at the paris olympics, skateboarder cui chenxi won fourth place, breaking the best record of chinese players in this event.
at the 7th city games, many young players said that they love skateboarding very much and hope to have the opportunity to step onto a bigger stage and even win glory for the country in the olympics.
unafraid of difficulties
athletes fighting hard on the field
the athletes on the field interpreted the charm of skateboarding's freedom, limit-challenging and brave expression with concentration, perseverance and enthusiasm, showing the good mental outlook of our city's young people.
zhu li'ao from chongqing liangjiang bashu school performed the most difficult trick in the street competition, "best trick". he spread his wings like an eagle, slid down from the edge of the platform, and the skateboard flipped three times under his feet but fell down again... he failed to complete this trick in his three attempts, and failed again when he was close to completing it in the last attempt. after the competition, the commentator encouraged him to do it again, but it would not be counted in his score. zhu li'ao quickly adjusted his state and completed the trick, and the audience burst into thunderous applause and cheers.
like zhu li'ao, wang siyu from the women's group b, who is in the third grade of boya primary school, was not afraid of difficulties. she also failed to complete the final difficult moves in the street competition. after the second round of the competition, the 9-year-old girl couldn't help crying. the little skater in the same group rushed forward to comfort her. after calming down, she completed the moves on the high bar, and then she won the silver medal in the street competition, the gold medal in the obstacle race, and the silver medal in the bowl pool.

"amazing! how did they do it?" "can i be like him?" the wonderful performances of the contestants aroused the admiration of the students watching. after the competition, du yunzhen, a professional skateboarder from chongqing and a signed skateboarder of the well-known brand saga, who is the idol of many skateboarding-loving children, also came to the scene to support and encourage the children to pursue their dreams unremittingly, and to keep moving forward like the players who fought hard on the field and constantly surpass themselves no matter how many difficulties and challenges they encountered.
du yunzhen said that skateboarding in chongqing started late, and there are currently few venues, competitions, and coaches available for training and competition. "but i am very happy to see that more and more children love this sport from the bottom of their hearts. from the competitions, we can see everyone's enthusiasm, confidence, and hard work. this makes me see the future of skateboarding booming in chongqing. i plan to return to chongqing to teach in october and help more skateboarders create unlimited possibilities."
helping growth
skateboarding is a sport of conquering yourself
according to the person in charge of the event organizing committee, the vast majority of contestants in this competition are 12 years old or younger, which is conducive to the "starting of skateboarding from an early age" and improving the competitive level of young skateboarders across the city. at the same time, the introduction of skateboarding competitions into the city games will encourage more institutions to actively carry out amateur skateboarding training and promote the popularization and development of skateboarding.

wu yuchen from dongcheng primary school in jiangjin district won two gold medals in the men's group b bowl pool and obstacle race. he said that he usually goes to school in jiangjin and trains in chongqing every weekend, basically rain or shine. such a result makes him feel that the previous hard training is worth it. "in future skateboarding practice, i will work harder and look forward to practicing more 'big tricks'."
quan shiyu from liangjiang jinyu school said: "this competition has made me progress a lot. skateboarding is a sport that pursues freedom and is full of challenges. i will always love it and hope to represent chongqing to participate in higher-level competitions one day." you ruolan, a first-year junior high school student from luneng bashu middle school, felt a lot of pressure before the competition and even wanted to withdraw. but when she stood at the competition venue, she had only one thought: "do every move well and compete well in every game." at a young age, she has her own insights into skateboarding - it is a sport to conquer the terrain, but also a sport to conquer oneself.

jiang lingxi's parents, who won two gold medals and one bronze medal, expressed their full support for their child's hobby: "many skateboarding practice venues have different road conditions such as slopes, curved surfaces, poles, and flat ground. children need to concentrate highly, especially to train their concentration, coordination, balance, and ability to withstand pressure and frustration. since xixi started skateboarding, her autonomy and ability to withstand pressure have been significantly enhanced."
seeking common development
small skateboard has a big future
the venue for the skateboarding competition of the 7th national games is a cement skateboard park at yuxi middle school. the venue is divided into two parts: street style and bowl pool. one side simulates the street terrain with stairs, ramps, railings and platforms; the other side is a "bowl pool" painted with graffiti, which is specially used for training skateboarding projects and is affectionately called the "super bowl" by everyone.
how was the "super bowl" built? a relevant person in charge of yuxi middle school told reporters that the chongqing roller skating association had always hoped to promote skateboarding in chongqing, but this project required a large specific venue and had not found a suitable place. by chance, the association learned that the school was located in xipeng, with a wide venue and conditions for the construction of this project. at the same time, the school is a key middle school in chongqing, with a good foundation in cultural education. just do it! soon, the chongqing sports bureau and the jiulongpo district sports bureau decided to jointly develop the project. in this way, in 2022, the first campus skateboard training ground in the southwest region was built in yuxi middle school.
in addition, the school also negotiated with surrounding primary schools and formed a link between primary, middle and high schools through joint planning by primary and secondary schools. then, the team was formed, coaches were hired, and players were recruited in one go. the school formed a professional training team with more than 10 students, and more than 20 members of the club interest classes, reaching a certain scale.
"from the completion of the skateboard training base, to the athletes shining in the 7th national games, to more high-level competitions to be held in the future, all of them are aimed at making more people happy because of skateboarding, and allowing more outstanding talents with dreams and potential to step onto a higher and bigger stage." a relevant person in charge of the chongqing roller skating association said that the next step will be to work with relevant departments to further expand the popularity of skateboarding and allow skateboarding to develop better in chongqing.
