the 2024 "xiaotie self-service billiards·asia cup" 9th shanghai university billiards championship ended last weekend at the lido new concept billiards club in yangpu district, which also means that the new season of shanghai university billiards has begun.
since the shanghai university billiards championship was held in 2016, it has effectively expanded the billiard population at the university level in shanghai. currently, billiards has covered more than 40 universities in the city, radiating more than 60,000 university students. the shanghai university billiards league, jointly participated by 16 universities including shanghai jiaotong university, fudan university, tongji university, and east china normal university, has also come into being. in 2023, based on the municipal university billiards championship, the shanghai billiards association held a series of shanghai university billiards team selection competitions. through two eight-station competitions, the 2024-2025 shanghai university billiards team was selected and formed.
this championship has two individual events: the men's chinese 8-ball individual competition and the women's american 8-ball individual competition, using a single-elimination system. the competition attracted athletes from 25 colleges and universities in the city. after fierce competition, the top four in each group were determined.
the competition was guided by the organizing committee of the 4th shanghai citizens games, hosted by shanghai social sports management center and shanghai yangpu district sports federation, and undertaken by shanghai billiards association, shanghai yangpu district billiards association, and zhongyi industrial (shanghai) co., ltd. the event also received strong support from other social forces.
