on september 22, the 2024 huairou great wall marathon and the 58th park half marathon beijing open started at the beijing yanqi lake international convention and exhibition center.

the huairou great wall marathon is a class a event certified by the chinese athletics association. it is co-organized by the beijing municipal sports bureau, beijing sports federation, and the huairou district people's government of beijing, and co-sponsored by the secretariat of the beijing sports federation, beijing athletics association, and the huairou district sports bureau of beijing.

the event has two events, full and half marathon, with a total of 8,251 participants, including 2,251 full marathon participants and 6,000 half marathon participants. the starting point of the event is yanqi lake international convention and exhibition center, the half marathon ends at the west bank of hongluo lake, and the full marathon ends at the great wall museum at the foot of mutianyu great wall. the track runs through mountains, forests, lakes, and rivers, passing through yanqi lake, hongluo temple, shengquan mountain and other scenic spots. participants run freely in the beautiful scenery of huairou and feel the heritage and charm of the beautiful huairou.

there are 170 referees and 2,119 volunteers in the event. there are 26 official drinking water, water and energy supply stations on the track, 19 medical stations, 22 ambulances and 90 aed devices, as well as 39 medical runners to maximize the safety of the athletes.

after fierce competition, weyesa muloone biru and belayne yenenesh mezgeb from ethiopia won the men's and women's full marathon championships with 2 hours 21 minutes 58 seconds and 2 hours 40 minutes 59 seconds respectively, and both broke the record of the event. zhang yue and zhao xinlei from china won the men's and women's half marathon championships with 1 hour 10 minutes 30 seconds and 1 hour 25 minutes 23 seconds respectively.

this year marks the 10th anniversary of the huairou great wall marathon. in addition to retaining the characteristics of previous events, the event level, track design, and logistics support have been optimized and improved. this marathon has specially launched a mascot "li bao", which combines the great wall culture with huairou's specialty chestnuts and is named "li bao". on the back of it is printed the fun homophonic slogan "全『栗』以去", which means that athletes should go all out and strive for progress in the competition.

the race passes through yanqi town, huaibei town, huairou town, qiaozi town, and bohai town. each town along the way combines its own characteristics and organizes local shops, villagers, cultural teams, etc. to carry out a variety of support activities. the end of the whole course sets up activities such as agricultural product display and sale, intangible cultural heritage and creative handmade experience. authentic huairou chestnuts fried with traditional craftsmanship and colorful tie-dyeing with pure natural dyes are presented here one by one.

from september 20 to october 20, various territories and scenic spots along the route launched a series of preferential activities. participants can enjoy free tickets to mutianyu, shengquan mountain, and yanqi lake scenic areas with their race bibs and valid certificates. 68 hotels, boutique homestays, and catering companies in the five towns along the route offer discounts of no less than 12% off.
