xining, september 20 (dong qingfang, ma qing, liu yubin) on september 20, the 2024 annual maintenance work of the ±400 kv chaila dc system of the qinghai-tibet interconnection project of the "electric sky road" was fully launched. this is the 13th annual inspection of the project. this annual maintenance will further improve the health level of the qinghai-tibet interconnection project and provide reliable guarantee for the economic development of qinghai and tibet and the power supply this winter and next spring.
the qinghai-tibet power grid interconnection project is the first "power sky road" to tibet. the average altitude of the direct current line from the qaidam converter station to the lhasa converter station is 4,650 meters. it is the highest-altitude direct current transmission line in the world and the longest mileage across permafrost. the project was put into operation in november 2011, which completely changed the situation of isolated operation of the tibetan power grid, unblocked the energy bottleneck in tibet, and provided a stable "green channel" for "exporting tibetan power out of tibet" during the flood season and "sending power into tibet" during the dry season, solving the problem of severe power shortage in tibet in winter and difficulty in absorbing power during the flood season in summer.
up to now, a total of 21.558 billion kwh of electricity has been transmitted in both directions, of which 12.116 billion kwh has been transmitted from qinghai to tibet, and 9.442 billion kwh of surplus hydropower in summer has been transmitted from tibet to other places.

the reporter learned that in order to ensure the reliable and stable transmission of electric energy between the qinghai and tibet provinces, the state grid conducts annual centralized maintenance on the dc system of the qinghai-tibet interconnection project. this year's annual inspection will last until september 30, and maintenance personnel will conduct a full range of "physical examinations" and "diagnosis and treatment" on the two converter stations and the ±400 kv chaila line. among them, the qaidam converter station will carry out routine maintenance, special maintenance, defect elimination projects, hidden danger management, and overhaul projects totaling 698 items based on the operation of the equipment. the qinghai section of the line will inspect the aerial wiring of 485 lines from towers 475 to 960, check whether the wires are worn, broken, broken, severely rusted, damaged, missing parts, etc., deal with defects found in the early stage, conduct spot checks on the towers, replace insulators, and manage hidden dangers.
"this annual inspection is a 'highlight' of this year's autumn inspection and test. the task is arduous and the responsibility is heavy. after the annual inspection, the qinghai-tibet interconnection project will be more stable and reliable." tian shengxiang, deputy general manager of state grid qinghai ultra-high voltage company, said that state grid qinghai electric power will organize power transmission professionals to independently implement the installation of 18 distributed fault diagnostic devices throughout the process based on the original 6 distributed fault diagnostic devices on the ±400 kv chaila line, and uniformly connect the equipment signals to the power transmission panoramic monitoring platform, while improving the core business capabilities of the front-line teams and better supporting the lean operation and inspection of the "electric power sky road", so that the intelligent level of the qinghai-tibet interconnection project can be "upgraded" again.
